Hi I’m Ryxku and I report a bug because I feel the snap has changed for no reason, I recently felt that the snap didn’t work the same anymore.
But normally when I’m in scale mode and hold shift, I can snap from one part to another without it going through. Now when I press shift, it stretches around my part and it’s really disturbing, I can’t snap anymore in scale mode, I don’t know why.
I’ve tried all the methods and I’m forced to switch back to Move mode to snap.
I think it’s a bug because I was used to snap in scale mode.
There’s not really anywhere else to document it. The documentation for the stuff under the beta but hasn’t even been posted to the Creator Hub yet because the changes have only been rolled out to 5%.
Glad to have found this post tonight because I noticed this lack of snapping about 10 days ago and I’ve been thinking “just my luck, I must have enabled a beta feature or tweaked some setting somewhere while sleep deprived and now I have a broken studio”.
I thought I had messed something up. Searched several days ago. Found that there was an “Align dragged” thing in the right-click list - but hadn’t I been using that? idk… Lots of restarts and disabling of plugins but still no snap with resizing. I discovered some margin snapping multipliers in the selection section of studio settings and that got me really hopeful a few hours ago, but experimenting with those seemed to have no effect for resizing parts to the edges of other parts.
It’s a real bummer not being able to build with snapping-to-scale as I already struggle with building basic stuff. Have toggled “collision” a thousand times trying to line stuff up this past week.
maybe this info can help - this lack of snapping for me happens while both scaling and positioning - with studios installed on an old apple mac and older intel mac, both running Ventura if any of that matters.
should add that after closer investigation, i found the box checked for this beta feature… I must have opted for that beta feature months ago and then not seen it recently when looking for the problem, (weird because the loss of snapping happened about 10 days ago) so unchecked it and hoped that would be the fix, but nope. I’ve since had it on and off. More restarts and resets of settings. Nothing has worked. I seem to have lost all snapping ability no matter what.
Snapping is completely broken for me even though the little nodes still show up. The “shift” button does not snap when in move mode. In scale mode, it’s also completely broken.
What’s going on?
I’m sorry for replying so late.
Thank you for asking for clarification.
Fortunately, the snapping returned for me. I don’t know why or how. In my attempts to fix this, I had toggled the new beta feature but I didn’t lose or gain anything by having it off, so I turned it back on and kept it on (figured waiting for it to fix itself might help haha) And i think I returned all the other settings back to normal as well, since tweaking them gave no results. Still no snapping.
Then, I’m estimating about one or two weeks later ( ago ) the snapping returned. I could snap! Woo hoo! Weird though, because I’m pretty sure that studio did not go through any update prior to snap returning. It had been opening as normal without any upgrading. I figured that maybe a lot of studio functionality happens/ is connected live through your servers and maybe it was fixed on that end. idk. Such stuff is way above my limited scripting knowledge.
When snap wasn’t working (with the beta feature on, of course), the dot markers would appear, and they would usually highlight when passing an alignment position, but there wasn’t any kind of magnetic effect that allowed them to pull/snap together. So it was hit and miss, slowly and painstakingly dragging parts around in the tiniest increments, trying to see the white nodes pop yellow, and it seemed even that wasn’t always a work around.
And it was happening with everything. Moving any part or model anywhere around the workspace. Every snapping situation offered by the beta feature no longer had physical snap. I had to toggle collisions constantly. Especially trying to scale stuff. Snap was totally gone with scaling. Scale was where I missed snap the most, but I also recall snap always missing with position edits too.
One issue has remained that I didn’t report on earlier, but uhJx_ke mentioned, and that is – the keybinds are kind of unreliable. Pressing 2 or 3 or 4 on my keyboard, often does not prep the selected object for positioning, scaling, or rotation. I have to move the mouse up and click the studio’s button for that. Hope this info helps
