Dungeon Dwellers - Looking for testers!

Some major updates such as UI improvements, new breakable pots that drop items, new enemy type and remade the death handling system.

Still looking for testers!

Unwanted input

My insight; the name “Dungeon Delver” reminds me of one of the first RPG games I played for a while when I first was on ROBLOX. It was insanely fleshed out for it’s time and it had a ton of replay value to it.
Check out the game here.

First playthrough.

Anyhow, I tried out the game for a bit but I did not get far at all. I was not sure what to do at the main hub when you spawn in so I went in a dungeon. Slashing an invisible sword, no clue how the movement works. I opened a chest, dragged empty squares with unloaded images into my inventory, tried to equip it by drag and dropping it on the square that highlights when holding (as if it is telling me to drop it there to equip,) and it sells it. At least, that’s what the sound makes me think. After some time I see a chestplate icon on my feet, which is one of the items I equipped. The equipping SFX that plays sounds like coins, so it’s an instant link to a shop to me. I then proceed to click every button on my keyboard to try and close the GUI. Maybe opening another chest refreshes it. In the end, I fail to get rid of the GUI and quit the game.

Yes, it is rushed, but a first impression counts the most. I did not have anything in the game that spoke to me to try a second time, so that would mean a player is lost.

Second playthrough

In this playthrough I focus more on discovering what the game has to offer. In the title screen I go to settings, nothing opens. Yes, it is a W.I.P. feature, but an indicator that it’s coming is always nice, just to know it works. I load in, and to my surprise I spawn back in the dungeon. Odd, but the dungeon could be 30 minutes long, so position saving could be useful, until the dungeons are procedurally generated. I try to find settings to check my keybinds for maybe there is a button to get rid of the chest GUI, but there is not. I try to understand the movement controls, but I can’t. The game is not meant for first person, since the mouse is stuck in the center of the screen making you unable to interact with GUIs. However it is also difficult to play in third person because the camera is really slow, and it doesn’t help that whenever you hold right click to move the camera, you start blocking (which I don’t think works yet). I open another chest to see for items, and it seems every chest has a minimum of 3 items, guaranteed an armor piece. Could be luck, but it seems a bit excessive. I then fail again to get rid of the GUI. I find a goblin, try out the combat, and I don’t dislike it. It’s a bit slow, but having an optional combat style with different hits could be a nice spin on generic RPG games. Afterwards, I die. I go back to the home world, do some exploring, push over a T-Posing skeleton and go into the bar. I love the voice acting. It was a pleasant surprise. I pick up a pouch of something on the bar floor and I see the controls on the right side of the screen, TAB for inventory. I got that now.

I then went into the dungeon again, but without much of a goal I just started slashing with the sword the bartender gave me, killed some skeletons which proceeded to respawn right in front of me, and with not much of a goal, I closed the game.

My honest opinion, it has good potential. A promising combat system and even though it’s a single character good quality NPC’s which could make for a good storyline. Keep working on the game, I’ll be intrigued for what it will become.

The game is in a bit of a too-early stage to give an in-depth test like bugs or exploits, but if you want to have me keep testing your game I’ll be more than happy to help, just send me a message in DMs.

Thanks for the honest input! I realized after having a random friend who is unfamiliar to these types of games asked alot of the same questions you mentioned.

To close the chest UI its tab which is the button to open/close inventory which i realize its not obvious enough. I will be adding a close button as well as auto close when player moves.

The invisible sword is actually fists but animations arent in yet I apologize.

Some of the sounds are incorrectly set, I will fix that today thank you for bringing that to my attention!

Chest icon is default for equipment with no icon I am almost done updating all icons for current items which will reduce confusion.

I will DM you once those fixes are in, thanks again!

Also I do plan on hiring more voice actors for various characters that will have Tarkov style questlines.

Also in first person the mouse should be freed when a ui opens if not I will fix that today as well.
