Duplicating or Copying instance will add a number after them

I listed this bug under Insert, Transform, Scale, Move, as I believe this has something to do with duplicating/copying which Inserts a copy of a different model.

For some reason duplicating/copying instances will add a number after the name. This used not to happen and this affects developers’ workflow. I don’t think this was intended to happen as it wasn’t announced anywhere. I hope this issue can be fixed because this affects the way I work with objects, which shouldn’t be renamed. I have to manually rename them to the original name to make sure they work properly.

Cloning an instance through a script will not cause this to happen.

Visual aids:

Beta features:

  • Avatar Auto-Setup Beta
  • Draggerl QoL Improvements
  • Multilayer Wrap fix
  • New studio camera controls
  • Occlusion Culling
  • Texture Generator
  • Updated Roblox Controls

Reproduction steps:
Duplicate or Copy a studio instance

System Info:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 16-Core Processor
  • 128 GB
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090

Expected behavior

I expect the duplicated/copied instances to have no number after their name

This is an optional feature! It is part of the next gen explorer beta, which you seem to have on. You can disable it in the three dot menu next to the new explorer.

This is being worked on and soon will not have a space between the number, from staff responses in the announcement topic.

Not sure it’s supposed to work with the old explorer which i’m using at the moment, since it has no option to disable it.

i will try to see if i can disable with the new one and get back to the old explorer

That’s strange. To see if it works as a quick fix, can you disable it in the new explorer and then switch back to the old one?

That seems to work, hopefully if anybody comes accross this issue and uses the old explorer they can use this post to turn it off

This is not supposed to affect the old explorer, we will triage this, thank you.

In the meantime, if you want to disable the behavior while keeping the old Explorer, you can temporarily enable the new explorer beta feature, turn off the setting in there to increment names, and then unflip the beta feature, and I would expect it to persist.

It does indeed. This solution was suggested just above and the OP confirmed it worked, FYI
