Eerie Guest GFX Feedback

Hey all! This is the first time in almost a year I have used Blender to make GFX. A lot of things have changed ever since and I have forgot some features that I used to do with Blender back then. But that isn’t the case of this topic, it’s feedback of course. Anyways, here’s the image for you to take a look at:

I’m going to start with my own feedback first. For what I say, I did a great job at photo editing. It looks great in my views with the bokeh, noise, bloom, and slightly increased contrast added from the raw image. Now the problem with this render is the lack of material detail, specifically the concrete. It all looks too smooth. Tried everything from changing the values that can make the material more sharper to using different PBRs but it just wouldn’t make things pop. Perhaps I needed to make the normal bump strength to a value somewhere between 2.5-5.0, along with using the displacement and roughness textures, which I should’ve thought about before rendering the image. If I did it would look perfect!

So what are your thoughts on what I’ve made. Does it look very good, OK, or not and how to improve it. I’ll check back later on this post to see what you say about it.

Do you think it would look better without the snow particles?

That’s the bokeh, not snow :smile:. It’s okay if you got that wrong. The image without the particles still looks good with the eye. Unfortunately I didn’t save the project file so I can’t experiment with it, although I can give you the raw image right here.

The first image actually has seems better :shock:

one thing I would change is the lighting plane that is reflecting off the ground, and maybe add some fov to make it look more dramatic and creepy!

Great, I’ll take that lighting shape in note (what shape are you thinking of specifically?). I did add some slight FOV zoom (not sure if you wanted it closer or further from the subject), I didn’t really want to exclude most of the cars in the scene. Thanks for your feedback anyways, I’m looking to hearing you more in my future feedbacks.

I’m not really sure what software you use to make these but I’m gonna guess you’re using Blender. Now what I’m trying to say is that the lighting plane you used is reflecting on the ground and even though it doesn’t show on the camera I can still see it.

You can fix this by selecting the plane > Object Properties > click on ‘Visibility’ > and make sure “renders” is off I’m pretty sure. If that doesn’t work then make sure it is checked. I honestly forget which way it is since I don’t use lighting planes. Also, make sure Shadows and Camera is turned off too. I hope I am saying this right haha.

Yeah that’s something I did take into mind, and was struggling to get it removed due to my limited knowledge of Blender. Thanks for the tip, I’ll be using it in later GFXs that require some backlighting.

No problem! I also forgot to mention one thing about the camera, the FOV is fine but I’m not sure if you have heard of the Focal Length option on Blender? it basically can make your camera zoomed in or zoomed out and I think this would look good if it was zoomed in a little bit. I can explain how if you’d like? I think you might know since you said you did add some FOV.

Yep, I did use the Focal Length feature on the camera and I already have the basic idea of what it is, so I’m all good! There’s also a bit of DOF going on in the scene, but it’s barely noticeable or none at all, perhaps I might’ve turned it off before I’ve rendered the scene.

Yeah, I just feel like since the Guest is the main focus of this scene that you could add some fov to him but not a crazy amount so that we can still see that there is cars. :slight_smile:
