A friend and I made an egg hunt game that sadly ultimately was a flop. Curious on feedback as to what you feel may have been reason why / what you overall think of it if you wouldn’t mind checking it out! What do you feel could’ve made it better?
When I joined it, I was on a spawn point in the middle of the void, and none of the buttons work. However, the UI design and i can tell from a distance that it looks quite nice. It may have flopped due to some bugs and the way you advertised.
Looks fine… For me I would add some free-ish things. You’re collecting chocolate bunnies, possibly make them a currency that can buy some things. As is it’s all pay…
This is just how I personally feel; Most everything in a game should be grindable even if you can buy it also.
Other than that it looks like a lot of work and flows real nice. Like most everything about how you did things.
Here are some reasons the game flopped, and what you can improve.
Lack of direction; a normal player wouldn’t be sure about where to go, it took me some time to realize that i had to buy keys to make the portals work.
The game not being named properly; When players hear ‘Egg hunt’ , most think about the official roblox egg hunts and by knowing that there aren’t any, they might think this game is just bait. I’d recommend renaming the game to ‘Find the eggs! (number of eggs)’
Lack of context; The add of something like a storyline could give players a feel of immersion and a reason to find all the eggs and progress through the worlds.
Experiment with different mechanics; I’d really recommend going ahead and experimenting with different mechanics such as puzzles etc… to obtain eggs. That could really spice up the gameplay and give the players something else to do other than just searching the map.
Advertise properly; May it be through online content, roblox ads, advertising on socials… It’s something that really determines the success of your game.
Thanks for the feedback – when you spawned, were you able to click play? What buttons exactly didn’t work? I tested on my phone and PC and didn’t run into these issues but I’ll look into the code again! Thank you!
This is ultimately my fault for not deciding to make this game but like a few weeks before Easter so I was trying to get it out by Easter with just my friend doing the 2d art / 3d modeling, everything else I did myself.
I had plans to have a shop to buy different gears and such with the bunnies earned, I had plans to make it a lil story-based with quests certain Egg NPCs would give with tasks to obtain certain eggs, I think I will continue this even though Easter passed.
I definitely agree with lack of direction, I should’ve made the portal keys a little more obvious in some fashion, any ideas you may have? I thought of a beam of arrows that guided you to the key but that would become rather annoying for people that may not want to buy portal when they obtain enough bunnies.
I think I might take your advice and change the name, great point!
I had plans to make a lil more of a storyline with quests egg NPCs would give but I sadly decided to make this game way too close to Easter, only got about 3 weeks time to develop it and was trying to get out by Easter.
Yes! There was plans of quests and obbies and such to obtain eggs, sadly ran out of time but now I know a bit more from this experience.
Advertising / getting exposure to games nowadays as an unknown dev I feel is harder and harder compared to years past, I have no following on X and no other social medias, I did advertise with the new system for 2850 robux but gained no robux in return
Hmm… Well 1 bug is 1 too many, curious as to what may have caused that issue you experienced. Thanks for informing me!
Have you unlocked the portals? There’s a key you have to purchase near each portal to unlock it. I should make this a little more clear in some fashion.
You could definetly knock out 2 birds with one stone by playing a cutscene introducing a piece of the storyline and a quick “tutorial” as soon as the player clicks play on the menu!
And yeah… I definetly think it gets harder and harder to advertise your game as a small developer but i’m sure if you’re determined enough and don’t give up you can find your target audience!
You’re not wrong with that idea! Perhaps something, maybe will just remove the whole portal keys and have a SurfaceGui on the portals or use ProximityPrompt to unlock them so it’s more clear.
Sadly yes, Roblox claimed to make it easier for exposure for smaller devs I thought but I don’t see that being true. Thanks again for the input!
I think they should be automatically activated once the player reaches the requirement.
Concerning that, i’m pretty sure they actually improved the ad system and that now it gets way more players and results. Though it’s always best to advertise on socials too.
Portals cost bunnies to unlock so that idea of automatically activating wouldn’t quite work – I think the game definitely has potential but not sure why it got such negative ratings unless like previously mentioned where UI to play wasn’t working although I had tested it on mobile and PC and seemed to work.
It probably does work better now but years ago could spend less robux to get more VS now you have to spend at least 2850 robux to advertise, I spent 2850 robux on this game and it brought nothing, luckily I have another game that brings a lil in
