Environment lacking "life"... looks too flat and simple

Issue:

I am currently working on a game and the environment is a quite influenced by the game Fisch. Anyways, that is besides the point.
My main point is, this current island is looking a little too flat and simple. Any ideas on how to make it fuller and denser? I am planning to add about 2 small houses as Selling spots and Upgrades spots but besides that I have no idea how I will make it seem fuller.

it’s wayy too empty. try adding more trees, pebbles/rocks, grass (if possible), maybe flowers, bushes, other structures like a small house or a hut, etc…

for the pond, try adding lilypads and some sea grass

That pond is actually a cove where the players will be diving
How is this improvement so far?

add some details on the cliffs, like vines and stuff

In fisch, the terrain is more uneven. Try to make you’re terrain more uneven using some meshparts and try making the green used for terrain and tree leaves darker and adding sand near the water pool and near the coastlines. Also, vary the tree leaf colours aswell.

First: Try swapping the materials to pre-2022 by going to material service and scrolling down on its properties, odds are it’ll look far better with the visual style you’re going for. (new materials look ugly in 99% of cases)

Second: Model and place a bunch of small tufts of grass.

Third: More foliage variety. I’m seeing maybe 2 different types of trees and 1 bush model. Add more variety!

Fourth: Don’t use consistent colors in terrain. Odd advice, I know, but just throw in a few darker shades of green into the trees and bushes and you’ll see what I mean.
(And by different colors, I mean to have a single tree containing several different shades of green, not the entire set of leaves being 1 color)

Fifth: Less boxy map! Just add more parts at angles on every axis, don’t have the ground perfectly flat.

tl;dr, it needs color variation and more rotation.

Here’s some screenshots that you can use for inspiration and to understand what I mean:

TERRAIN:

And 2 tools I’d highly recommend are GapFill and Brushtool
Gapfill makes creating funky terrain easier, and Brushtool makes placing things, such as trees, rocks and other foliage a lot faster and less manual.

Gratitude:

Thank you so much to everyone for their detailed advices. I have managed to make my island look twice as better. The little open space near the stone paths is where I will set up the two houses for some upgrades and stuff, which I will add soon and update y’all on it as well.
I will most definitely keep all the pointers in mind for my next island. I have attached the current island’s state for y’all to have a look at. And of course, please keep the feedback coming because I think there is still some potential to make this island look even better.

excellent! i would prefer resizing the trees individually more and rotate them so it doesn’t look like they were copy and pasted

Haha! I am currently working on some coding part of the game but soon enough, there will be some more visual changes to this starter island, which I am calling “Dewdrop Cove”. I cannot wait to add more models and make it look more visually stunning, both during the day and night!

Nice! I think for trees you could maybe make mushrooms and or moss! And for the path add pebbles!

It is pretty simple, but there’s nothing wrong with it. You should add bushes, rocks, and other trees to fill it up with things.

You should remove those trees that aren’t blocky.
They’re kinda messing up the style you’re going for Imo.

They can also make it more “retro” too!

I think I’m going to keep the non-blocky trees because I like how they are breaking up the shape and it’s a visual change.
