Error 261 - Account stuck in matchmaking loop, friends can't join

I’m experiencing persistent issues with joining games on my main account. When I try to join any game (public or VIP), Roblox retries 10–15 times before entirely failing and returning Error 261 (There was a problem streaming data). If Roblox does manage to connect me to a game (private server for instance) on my main account, friends won’t be able to join me. I would have to either join them myself, or select a public server from the Server list.

Though, if I use my alt account, Roblox lets me connect instantly as if nothing ever happened.

After investigation, I have a reason to believe that this issue is entirely at Roblox, since I already have tried the following:

  • Reinstalling Roblox & deleting the folder from the local install directory

  • Logged in/out of main account

  • Cleared cookies & browser cache

  • Flushing DNS

  • Resetting IP stack & Winsock

  • Switching DNS servers

  • Restarting modem

  • Trying on any other available device (laptop, mobile)

  • Trying with and without VPN

  • Trying to play using the Roblox App on Windows

  • Deleting my Research Panel account and its data (apparently this issue is Research panel related?)

Current Behavior

  • 10–15 retries before joining, or complete failure with Error 261.
  • Joining via “Play” button or a Private Server consistently fails.
  • Friends are unable to join me after I manage to connect.
  • Works normally on alternate account using same hardware/network.

System Specifications

  • CPU: Intel Core I7-10700K (x64)
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070
  • Browser: Chrome 138
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro

Expected behavior

  • Join games instantly, like on my alternate account.

I know this is an odd question, but are you a part of the Roblox research panel? This is an issue affecting some beta members as well, but only on their alt account

Yeah, I do happen to be apart of the Roblox research panel. Maybe that might explain why joining experiences on my alt works instead of my main account…

I’d try disabling beta on all accounts. That may fix it, but I would report it to the discord channel as well

I’ll try deleting my research panel account, since I haven’t really been active within that community as of recently. Hopefully this helps aswell, since it just completely opts me out.

Yeah I’d still recommend using their discord, since they can officially opt you out. Hope it helps!

I’ve waited 24 hours since my account deletion request. My request has now been processed and the account including all of its associated data is deleted. This should also include any beta settings and similar.

After processing the request, it seems that the issue has not resolved. I’m not sure where to find the Discord server, and/or if manually opting out (despite data being erased) would even make a difference.

Roblox Studio and the Roblox app now shows a static message top-left of my screen that says CanManageKickDisableDebugger = True (not declared!). Not sure if this related to the issue I’m facing, but I thought I would note that down here.

I just noticed this error is happening with me as well but in-game

After that, I don’t really have any other solutions, sorry I couldn’t of been more help
