Experiencing issues with uploading thumbnails

I’m experiencing a weird issue with uploading thumbnails to a certain group. Upon uploading any type of image, I get an error message stating:

“Upload image failed. Thumbnails should be the following formats: .jpeg, .png, .bmp, .webp and not exceed 3MB in size”.

This issue seems to be tied to the group because when I upload the same image to another place outside of the group, it goes through without any problems.

Things I have already tried:

Changing the image title

  • Making small adjustments to the image
  • Changing the image file type
  • Resizing the image
  • Attempting to upload different images
  • Use a different browser
  • Use the mobile app

The issue also seems to only be affecting my account, as other users are able to upload the same thumbnails without experiencing this.

Thank you for the report. We have assigned to our team for review.

I have been experiencing the same issue on my specific experience as well, which is directly owned by me and not a group. I am not only unable to upload thumbnails, but also unable to delete and edit (rearrange/set alt text) existing thumbnails.

It seems to be tied to specific experiences, as I have no issues with when attempting to upload the exact same thumbnail .png file onto another experience that has the exact same ownership (directly owned by me and not a group).

Doing it through Roblox Studio was the workaround solution, but options for managing the experience thumbnails has recently been removed off of Roblox Studio and replaced with a link to the Creator Hub.

Hi:
Sorry for the issue. I believe it is due to some new change on limit for our image format.
We now do not allow webp format to upload. If you have the webp image, it might fail silently. So we have block this type to be chosen in the upload flow. Can you try save your image into jpg or png as a copy and upload again?
If you still encounter issues, please let us know.

Not OP, but the original image file I am trying to upload is a standard .PNG file (842 KB).

Exporting the file as a .JPG does not solve the issue, as OP has described in his post.

I have tried uploading the same thumbnail in different places, but there is only an issue when editing the Experience Detail Page Thumbnails on that specific page (Thumbnails > Experience Detail Page) for specific experiences/places (OP’s and mine).

  • Uploading the exact same file with the same page through the same process for another completely separate experience does not trigger the same issue.
  • Uploading the exact same file as a Home Page thumbnail on the homepage tab of the same page (Thumbnails) does not trigger the same issue.
  • Uploading the exact same file as a localized thumbnail through the localization tab does not trigger the same issue.

I can only assume something about the existing thumbnails on our specific place is not playing nice with the Creator Hub. Before it was removed, adjusting thumbnails on Roblox Studio for the same experience yielded no such problems.

For more info, I have been experiencing this issue with the Creator Hub page for a while (minimum at least 6 months since Dec 2025 if not longer), but I was uploading thumbnails via Roblox Studio as a work-a-round solution.

It may not have been recent new changes that is causing the root issue, but the removal of the work-a-round is causing an influx of reports.

I have done some digging. It seems that the images are actually being successfully uploaded and stored in the system, as can been seen under Creations > Development Items > Images. (Despite what the error dialog might suggest)

It seems the Thumbnail > Experience Detail Page page fails to actually set the newly uploaded image as part of the thumbnail list, similar to how it is unable to delete or edit the existing list of thumbnail images itself.

So i have the same exact problem and it really annoying. I tried downscaling the resolution, renaming, changing file types but nothing worked.
