It’s over. This method has suffered too many attacks, it’s not sustainable.
It is. Everyone knew it was going to happen sooner or later anyway.
Like the idea, however idea had been tried many times.
- If everything has to be manually added by a human, how will I know that they have accurately banned someone and if they did how would the banned user appeal their ban?
- Anti-cheats have always caused false positives, how would I know that my functions (cars, guns, running system, etc) can get players banned for no reason.
- Anyone can spoof a players username on the client, this can be used to report an innocent player.
- How would I know that whoever has access to modifying of the database, won’t abuse their power?
ah well nevermind, they can’t make a good security token so it got screwed over
The idea of a database ban system like this is not ideal in my opinion. As said previously, you have to worry about multiple vulnerabilities and the trustworthiness of the database contributors. Another notable inquiry is the loss of revenue. Now, revenue may not be necessarily important to creators for exploiters because it’s unlikely that an exploiter would purchase premium or any in-game perk because they are most likely not on their main account. A better solution to keep an experience or game safe from exploiters is to introduce some form of admin or moderation system and have your own team dedicated to catching the exploiters in the act. Alternatively, you can go without a system or task force of moderators, however, I’d recommend that you look into strengthening your game security by implementing the discussed precautions listed in this article. (I’d recommend this anyways)
I like the idea, but a global database for games is just not it.
I see where a global database is used around the same developer for the multi-games he/she has. But a global database for anyone to use is just too much.
innocent gets banned, now their next fav game they also are banned and if the contact developer the game has no idea why they got banned and now they got an angry person for something they didn’t do.
I see where is successfully for one developer for all his games, but not for global for all to use.
I don’t want to seem like a jerk, but this is how I see how it work only.
Stuff like these have too many flaws, and are targeted by exploiters.
Right?
Only successful database banlist’s are when they are private, still alt accounts can be made. But hey at least it won’t get targeted without exploiters figuring out what type of database you use. lol
