Exploiters on the forum

Recently, ive seen a few posts where some people who are either stupid or just darn right brave are asking for help with creating exploits and/or creating portfolios about creating exploits for people.

Now I would argue that this is a sign that the developer forum is becoming way to open, but thats an argument that is against a brick wall, so instead I’m curious in what consequences there are for these idiots thinking that this is an exploiter forum (Yes exploiting is technically a type of developing, but shush)

There are currently no dev forum rules preventing this, it could potentially come under NSFW but I would imagine not, and from past experiences of this could someone clarify what happens to the users involved, since day after day I see the control of the behaviour of the forums diminish, and I really do not want this to become the new normal.

Just to be very clear, I agnowledge that this is a minority of the new members joining the forum, and id rather someone didn’t point out that im not looking at the amazing advantages of having more people join the forum.

Its pretty stupid on why people are creating these things. Its like they purposely want others to mess up things. I wouldn’t do it, that would get you a free ban ticket. I am not sure why they even do this. Report the users who create those posts.

Yeah it’s stupid really stupid but it can also help the devs a dev can hire a exploiter to exploit their game and if the exploiter finds an exploit the dev can fix it.

I personally have flagged a post in #help-and-feedback:scripting-support a few months ago since it was just someone trolling by asking for help with an exploit script. (yes the OP of it even admitted to doing so)

I flagged it and the flag got accepted so i think it is safe to assume that exploit assistance is not allowed, and plus this is against the rules on roblox anyways, so it would make sense for them to not be allowed here too.

white hat hacking white hat exploiting, While this is ethical and is allowed in modern business practice roblox has blanket banned exploiting, even with developers trying to security test their own games, personally i’m all for this and I would definitely consider hiring people to safely attack my games however roblox just doesn’t allow it.

Well, I wouldn’t say that the DevForum is “flooded” with them, but sometimes there are trolls.
I also think that DevForum is becoming way too open. I see more and more bad posts, most don’t even post in the right category.
But I don’t see why exploiters are coming to the dev forum. Don’t exploiters already have v3million or whatever? Why then come to the dev forum?

I agree, I have just recently come across a post 20 minutes ago which was a portfolio about exploiting. This is really dumb (as they are giving Roblox a reason to terminate both their Roblox and Devforum account) and should be taken care of.

I saw that! I don’t understand why you would go ahead and go that, exploiting is not allowed here no matter what.

It’s common for developers to be exploiters, of course there’s going to be exploiters joining everyday, that’s just what happens
A rule preventing this won’t do much, people always ignore the rules

but seriously though if you exploit you’re a noob

I haven’t stumbled across a single instance of this in the past (aside 1 white hat hacker - worked for devs).
The posts may being removed but I can’t find a single recent instance of this happening:
https://devforum.roblox.com/search?q=exploit%20order%3Alatest

They’re just trolling on the DevForum for fun most likely.

I say let them post about exploits. If there’s any black-hatters who are honestly, truly incapable of seeing why it might be a bad idea to post about it here, it makes a great example of something you could crudely call natural selection – if someone wants to go around openly saying they’re doing stuff that isn’t allowed, then take their word on it.

Maybe once they find themselves banned from a bunch of games manually by developers here (e.g. I don’t allow JoeSchmoe123 to join my game because he said he likes to hack the type of game I make), they’ll realize that maybe it’s not such a good idea to admit to hacking on the one place they shouldn’t be admitting to doing it on. Do note, that’s leaving out literally every other part of why what they’re doing is stupid.

But you do know they could make other accounts if one account was banned on a certain game.

We all know how easy it is to make an account on roblox.

Whats stopping them rrom not making ither accounts?

I agree, but developers can use that to help figure out what they use to exploit games and have something to stop it before it happens, so they are only hurting themselves.

Nothing is stopping them from making new accounts, although implementing an account-age checker should at least counter their efforts to exploit slightly.

Simple
Ip ban the exploter on the fourm.

IP bans these days are about as useful as telling someone to go away, people can just use VPNs or alternate accounts.

Yeah, but, the devforum is a really, really good place to prevent those types of people. The main thing that contributes to this is the things you need to get into the dev-forum in the first place. People who do these trolls would get banned will eventually stop. Also, the second roblox dev-forum becomes, “The new normal” Wouldn’t roblox just make the application requirements harder so that trolls will stop wasting their times creating 50 accounts for the sole purpose of getting banned.

One last thing to mention, roblox dev-forum rules say that on certain occasions action to your account may be taken. This applies that people who don’t have VPNs would have to go lengths to buy one if they get temp ip ban.

I have to agree with @EtiTheSpirit on this one. As they said, it would just expose the person if they plan to do something malicious.

Of course, we don’t want the Dev Forums to turn into something like V3rmillion, but that likely won’t happen. I’m all for removing posts/users who just ask for exploit scripts, but if it’s actually something constructive or thought out in the post, why not?

Not only could it help people understand how exploiting works in the first place, but if they do find an exploit that would work, everyone on the dev forums could see it, learn from it, and implement something in their game that would prevent it (backfiring on the exploiter).

With that being said, I’m all for a rule against un-helpful posts regarding exploration, the targeting of persons or games, etc. But again as a recap, I think thought-out posts could help developers by not only allowing them to learn about the different types of exploits, but also possibly understanding how to prevent them in the first place.
