Exported Roblox Models have unflippable normals

So I wanted to import some models from Roblox to work on a GFX and I’ve noticed that all of the imported models had flipped normals. I normally wouldn’t care much about it as I’d just flip the normals and go on with my work but it wouldn’t flip the normals at all.

I noticed it starting 3/22/2021 around 10 am EST. I’ve been able to reproduce this bug 100% of the time only with normals. It doesn’t affect any primitive parts such as cylinders and wedges.

How to reproduce:

  • Go into studio
  • Put any sort of model from the toolbox into the place and export it
  • Upload it to Blender
  • Go to “Viewport Shading”
  • Look at your model

You can try to fix it by going into edit mode and click Mesh > Normals > Recalculate Outside

I’m having trouble reproducing your issue. From Studio, I exported a MeshPart, a MeshPart inside a Model, as well as a Model I dragged in from the Toolbox Free Models (just like you said), and Imported each into Blender 2.90.

As you can see, all face orientation is correct. This is in Blender 2.90.

I’m not doubting your issue, I’m just saying that I’m having trouble replicating it

We haven’t been able to reproduce this issue. Does it still occur? @ItsKoiske

No it doesn’t anymore.

Thank you for confirming. Should the issue reoccur, please create a new topic for us to look into.
