Failed to create key for elevation policy

This solution requires the user to give Administrative Perms. This isn’t really a perfect solution…
This still affects people to this but it hasn’t been fixed once.
It’s been a struggle to open Roblox recently due to the fact that it updates every week and that it once again breaks itself (because the launcher is completely replaced) as soon as it updates.

I really wish this was fixed.

Moments after I actually tried it, it worked. Once I closed studio and tried to reopen it, it broke. Im so confused.

Exactly! It’s incredibly stupid and it’s been frustrating especially if you’re a frequent restarter like me, who restarts my PC to fully flush the system.
Whenever it works, it always gets replaced the next update or when you restart because “Roblox knows best”. It’s ridiculous.

If the Roblox team properly listened to the community instead of deciding to not even give a status on severe bugs, this issue wouldn’t be happening for almost a year now.

at this point, we’ve literally either had to install GitHub projects to stop updating and requiring the key entirely, or edit the confines of Studio in itself by going into our OS and literally giving Roblox administrative privs.

I am still having this issue.

Since the 9th of September this issue has been popping up continuously, not only preventing me from doing anything, it has been showing errors such as “An unexpected error occurred and Roblox needs to quit”. Previously, it used to show up as an elevation error similar to the one(s) above.

I have tried almost everything I can, including deleting/reinstalling many times, restarting PC many times, removing all Roblox files from program files from file explorer, and installing the Roblox Studio Mod Manager but it doesn’t work.

I have tried making a post about it on the DevForum about it but a Moderator removed it for not being in the correct topic despite me clearly saying "I don’t have access to the studio bugs section".

At this point, I have done everything I can and I don’t think there is much I can do. If anyone can help, please do. (Now I hope that this post isn’t also flagged for necro-bumping)

This is also happening to me. However, most of the time my Roblox Studio doesn’t even launch, it stops responding before opening. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling more than 10 times, deleting every Roblox related file I can find, restarting, and trying again. But the time I saw an error message it was that same.

My studio installs itself again every single time i open the app, i have no clue what to do and despite trying everything there is to try i have no luck. I may even litteraly be forced to quit using studio after using it for years, very disappointed that roblox still havent done anything with these issues.

You need to navigate to your program files and delete roblox in there, then uninstall roblox and reinstall it. Do not run the installer in admin.

Bump, still experiencing this issue

^ I tried everything, including the program files deletion

Bump, also still experiencing this issue

I can confirm this is also an issue for me, especially lately. I’m glad I’m not the first person that had to report this. The workaround that seems to work is that I uninstall studio entirely and reinstall- but it almost always re-appears.

Judging by the number of people experiencing this issue, staff should really take a look into this.

One way around it is to right-click the Studio icon on your desktop and hit “Run as administrator”, though it’s a bit annoying

Oh, did I mention this makes installing plugins from the Roblox website impossible?

This only occurs in the first place if you installed Roblox/Roblox Studio as an administrator; you should uninstall Studio and then reinstall it as a standard user.

Just affirming that this is the correct workaround for this issue. Make sure to install Studio only for the current user and not as administrator. Thanks @chexburger!

The team is looking into disabling admin installation in the future to avoid this issue entirely.

Here’s a problem:

  1. I completely uninstalled Roblox (Studio and Player) from ALL accounts on my Windows 10;
  2. Cleaned all residual files;
  3. I cleaned all the Roblox trace in the Windows registry.
  4. Installed Roblox Player and then Roblox Studio (no admin privilege).

So far so good: All new Roblox installations installed normally to C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Roblox\Versions

However, when trying to open a place in Studio via the link Create - Roblox :

… Studio was forced to be installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Roblox\Versions\

Now what?

Could you post this separately with all these details so I can forward your issue to the right team? Thanks!

This problem still persist for me. Very important in order to fix a game breaking bug!

Are you saying the fix above does not work for you?

If so, please file a new bug report with additional details!
