Failed to download or apply critical settings: Does not contain application settings table

I’m on Mac, with the latest Roblox client. Every time I launch Roblox from a Roblox.com link or double clicking the Roblox.app application, I get the following error:

Failed to download or apply critical settings, please check your internet connection. Error info: Does not contain application settings table

I’ve seen other reports on Reddit that cover the same thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/RobloxHelp/comments/17f19l7/roblox_failed_to_download_or_apply_critical/

Deleting Roblox.app and reinstalling does not resolve this but it does allow Roblox to open the first time. Once the app has been closed, it will no longer open again, either when you directly open the app or use a Play button on Roblox.com.

This issue happens even if the Roblox app is open already.

Workaround: Reinstall Roblox each time and open the experience from the Roblox app UI rather than the web UI. This doesn’t necessarily work for all use cases (like private server links, deep links etc). It’s also fairly slow as Roblox has to be reinstalled for each app launch.

This issue doesn’t appear to be affecting Roblox Studio on the same machine.

I have reproduced this on two Macs:
MacBook Pro 16", M2, macOS 14.6.1
Mac mini, M1, macOS 14.6.1

Both using Safari.

Expected behavior

The Roblox app should launch and load the experience.

I just tried again right now and it worked after encountering the same issue hours earlier. Yeah, give it a try yourself.
