Hi guys. I haven’t really worked on the game itself since winter break, but I have still been writing new pieces for my RPG, Fantasia. I just wanted to post these songs here since I think the game might never reach a fully playable state now that I have a job, college, and summer plans. My music is loosely based on Ian Taylor’s compositions for Old School Runescape, but I think I have a different writing style than him. However, I use the same soundfont as he did because I like the style.
- Bogged Down:
This piece will play in some silly mushroom-filled swamp area. I enjoy the chord progression in this piece a lot. - Daydream:
This one is pretty chill. I took some inspiration from OSRS’s “Dragontooth Island”. I am not sure where I’ll use this one though. - Legend:
A telling of a tragic tale about the ocean, shrouded in mystery. - Seek Adventure:
This one sounds kind of Asian to me, so I would likely use it if there was an area that was based on Asian culture. But idk, I’m not too familiar with Asian music so maybe it sounds too stereotypical at points for me to feel great about using it. Despite that, I think it is a cool piece. - The Desert Wanderer:
I like these middle eastern sounding songs for deserts. This one has cool rhythms that I really like. - Far Out:
This one sounds far out to me. I think I captured the way that Ian Taylor uses percussion in his compositions with this piece. - Bustle:
This piece will be used in a small town/village area. I think the middle section is really catchy - Skeleton Lord:
I like this piece since it kind of contrasts a jazzy/Latin feel with Mozartian/Classical Era parts. And the transition I wrote using the organ sound is pretty cool. - The Ancient Tree:
This one sounds kind like mystical forest music to me. I imagine a very sacred area in nature that has lots of history and a society that worships the tree. - Manic Minstrel:
This one was written as a joke but it’s kind of so bad that it’s good. It’s also very, very catchy. I was a little bit inspired by Mozart’s piece “A Music Joke,” which had similarly nonsensical melodies and basslines in it. Also if you listen closely the Halo theme plays at one point.
Hope you guys enjoy these songs! Maybe I will find the time/inspiration to keep working on Fantasia, so that they can become a part of an immersive experience. Also, check out my previous posts if you want to find my last two similar posts.
