Fantastic Frontier 'Pic of the Week': Going Dark

Hello Fantastic Frontier fans, Spectrabox here with a quick word -

Gorbachelli and I have decided, in an effort to complete the update in as timely a manner as still possible, this week’s picture will be the last ‘Pic of the Week’ that we share with you.

While we know many of you have enjoyed the weekly teasers, just as we have enjoyed getting to share them with you, the truth is we are only two developers - and creating and posting these images takes up time that we believe could be better spent getting us closer to what we all want: The update’s release.

We want to take some time to put our heads down, to work hard and with minimal distraction.

While it may not seem like a lot of work to post just a single image each week, a lot of thought goes in to choosing what to show, or more often - what not to show. Indeed there are many parts of the update, big and small, that we simply don’t want you to see yet - that is, at least, until you are able to experience them for yourself in-game.

I have mentioned this before, but Gorbachelli and I both see discovery and exploration as cornerstones of Fantastic Frontier - we believe exploring the mysterious and whimsical world of Fantastic Frontier is not half as interesting if you know exactly what you are going to find.

We have put much careful consideration into what has been revealed - trying our best to excite and impress, without spoiling the aspects we hold dear.

We hope you will understand our decision, and that you will not be too disappointed. This doesn’t mean we won’t be sharing anything else before the update’s release, we will likely still share teasers here and there when we feel it is a good time for it. In fact, there are many upcoming features that simply don’t fit all too well into the ‘Pic of the Week’ format - things like new mechanics and gameplay elements that just don’t lend themselves to the static image format that we have done thus far. Hopefully, we will be able to share some of this with you in the upcoming future.

So, I know there is still one question on everybody’s mind. How close is it? When can we expect the update to arrive?

Well, I said before that we would not make the same mistake of giving a release estimate again, until we were absolutely confident we could deliver on it. Unfortunately, this still remains true. While we know we are certainly closer than we were forty Pic of the Weeks ago, and that we are undoubtedly getting quite close, we still can not say for sure just how long it will be.

I know it is disappointing to hear these words once again. The massive scale of this update is something I still struggle to accept. It is clear to us now that breaking the update into smaller parts, and releasing them on a more consistent schedule, probably would have benefited both our players and ourselves.

With that said, we are now committed to delivering all of it, the full update - in all of its fantastic and unrestrained glory. The bright side of this decision - of course - is that it has allowed this update to blossom into something truly wonderful and unique.

The stories that will be told and the adventures that will be had - when the time comes that you do get to sit down and play the update for yourself, I think then it will have all been worth it.

Until then,
Spectrabox
