Feed back on my game - Velocity Run Beta

Hey developers, I’m relatively new to this roblox developer thing, and I’d like to introduce you all to my first (real) game. 90% of the scripts I hand crafted and I did a lot of the building by myself.
It’s an obby game which I decided to add an extra layer of depth to, to make it fresh. If it’s successful, and people find it fun, I may have plans to create another game, with the same mechanics, but multiplayer with an optional story mode. This game would have party modes, 1v1’s and tournament-style play. But those plans are for the potential far future.

Keep in mind, the thumbnail(s) and starting area of the game are placeholders and are not mine. As soon as I have time to create custom thumbnails they will be quickly replaced.

I am welcome to criticisms, suggestions and most importantly, things you LIKED or DISLIKED. As I will take note of that and put extra emphasis on those aspects. Things such as Animation, Level design, UI design, overall feel/theme, script integrity and control responsiveness or frustration aspects. The game is supposed to be compatible with mobile and XBOX. So if it can be tested there as well, I’d appreciate any feedback with that.

First 5 seconds, almost clicked buy now. Don’t like how when you join your firstly have the option to buy a trail don’t like how it’s just shoving it in like BUY ME instead of clicking a ui button to buy it. Speed is wayy to fast to actually complete the obbies. Test run the obbies before actually showing it off ;-; Don’t like having to jump and slow down after each JUMP…

I’m not “taking” a thumbnail, because I didn’t claim it as mine, It is a placeholder thumbnail in order to easily identify it from my other projects, as it is in beta. Perhaps you didn’t read my post carefully enough to recognize that, if not I will try to make that perfectly clear in the future. Please read my post before making accusations.

I would also rather you input your feedback into one reply instead of two, to reduce clutter.

On to the criticism about the donation prompt, I will make sure to have it so that there is a warning before the game prompts a purchase, if that really is so much of an issue. I can make that change.

;-; Don’t like having to jump and slow down after each JUMP…

Why don’t you like having to slow down? Is there any particular reason? During playtests by my friends they seem to have no problem with it so perhaps I’m missing something here, I’d love your input.

Speed is wayy to fast to actually complete the obbies. Test run the obbies before actually showing it off

The obby is not meant to have you hold the sprint button at all times, it is a methodical obby, not a speed run type obby where you can finish each level by keeping the sprint button and “W” key pressed down constantly.

That’s supposed to be where the extra depth lies, some parts of the obby require you to have the brain iq/activity to slow down, and reward you with progression.

If the speed is way to fast, maybe you should try to slow down, given that it is a designed option in the game that I purposely put in for a reason.

If you will, I encourage you to retry the game but with the mindset that the game requires patience, and then come back for both positive and negative about level design, controls and the like etc.
Thank you for your input.

Just played the game and it wasn’t bad.
I know the game is is early development but with some more work this could become a front page game.

Things I noticed

Mobile hold to shift is pretty difficult to jump with, should probably be a toggle or timer maybe. And sprinting is pretty buggy.

Also as another user pointed out the trail can be abused, didn’t purchase the trail but it may be because collide is on but I’m not really sure.

I also like how you already have support for multiple platforms.

Suggestions

Maybe add some puzzles so that players can slow down, let go of shift and set the game apart from any other obby.

Another suggestion I have is to add checkpoints and have it respawn you at the beginning of your stage and show your stage on the leaderboard.

Sorry if this was too long I just wanted to make sure I got everything.

  1. I don’t really get the point of the game at first glance, all there is is running around.
  2. You can turn shiftlock off in game settings, I would do this instead of telling players to do so in the description
  3. Both the thumbnail and icon have copyright I’m assuming you don’t own.
  4. The builds could be better, especially the spawn which is made of spheres

I was in-game with you while you were there. You ran into the first level and proceded to go back to the lobby and left. Did you know how to progress through the level? What was the confusion exactly? If you could explain. Was the objective of the level too difficult to comprehend?

If you needed help, you could have just asked me for it.

Thank you, I did that.

since this seems to be a hammer on point, so much so that apparently even me explaining that they are placeholders does not quench the deep seated fire and otherworldly urge to explain to me that it is not my thumbnail. I have made the effort to create custom thumbnails. If it’s really that important that I can’t have a placeholder, I have done it.

  1. The builds could be better, especially the spawn which is made of spheres

Ok, this makes sense. I’ll make sure to change the spawn whenever possible.

I recommend you retry my game, if you will, and actually try to progress through the levels and objectives. I would greatly appreciate it if you could do that.

I think you should try to build the game with a bit of instructions in-game on how to play, also, the platforms were transparent which made them hard to see, not sure if that was intentional. And for the thumbnails, it doesn’t really matter whether they are placeholders, they still are copyright. I recommend making some placeholder thumbnails in the mean time.

I already did

I have made the effort to create custom thumbnails

placeholder thumbnails have already been made, you can see them in the live version of the game, copyright free.

as for the transparent platforms, I have added signs to point the player in the right direction if they are unable to proceed. I have also added NPC’s with instructions for the game. Hopefully that will improve your gameplay experience.
