It was really laggy for me. When at the lobby place, it lagged as it was trying to render the main map, which is too close. When I spawned at the main map, I was like stop frame animation it was so slow.
Have you play tested it yourself outside of Studio? What can be quick and responsive in Studio can play like a dog online.
This seems to be the first game your team has made, and it looks like you are new to Roblox development! First of all, I really like the way you use terrain for the environment here, it adds a level of immersion to the game, there are a few issues, such as the lack of gameplay, but for what seems to be your teams first game, well done! I am sure you will improve and make better games, and might make a really good, successful one! Nobody knows, however I think that all developers have the talent for the next big game. They just need to put the effort in.
yeah it is quite laggy optimizing is something that I need to improve on thanks for the feedback
did you get past the first island?
I’ve tried it again tonight so I could give better feedback than just a comment about lag.
The game is graphically intensive for a Roblox game, way beyond any other Roblox game I have played. Yes the platform can give you very detailed mesh trees, but I had to dial back the graphics settings to 40% to be able to move around smoothly. Once I did that, it was OK.
The NPCs are aggressive as soon as you spawn, which is probably right, but the player gets no time to adjust to their change in settings, get their bearings and plan what to do. I guess from the crashed heli that you were in it. Perhaps explain that you have crashed…
The NPCs stay after death. You can add them to Debris Service which will clean them up after a period of time you define. So they don’t need to disappear immediately, but could do with going within 30 seconds perhaps.
What do I do? Apart from killing the NPCs? I eventually discovered the tunnels (cool) and saw the hint (yay) so I could move to the next island. Little prompts like that can help guide a player on a journey that you create the narrative for. Once I moved to the next island, the hint in the top left didn’t disappear. The text is light on a bright background, so not easy to see. Your environment is dark and moody, so style your UI similarly.
Overall a good looking game. But you need to optimise it for the style you are trying for. The lag seems to be down to the amount of grass in each scene. Whether it is decal/textures or emitter based stuff, it is intensive for the Roblox engine to process. Consider if you need that amount of grass, perhaps reduce in some areas, but keep others, so you don’t lose that dense jungle feel to it and experiment to see if there are better ways to achieve that feel.
Wow that was a lot. I will try to optimize my next game as best as I can. Thanks you for all your feedback
