[FEEDBACK] First city map

So I recently started building a city map for a zombie game i’m making, we ended up scrapping the map but I am looking for all the feedback I can from more experienced builders. In what ways can I improve the quality of each structure/building.

The map itself is a direct reference to this intersection:

All feedback is greatly appreciated!

For one, I would suggest a change in lighting, the current lighting makes it looks sort of bland. The structures themselves look pretty good, though I would use custom textures to provide that extra detail without using an excessive amount of parts. Otherwise, looks pretty good.

Thanks! And ah yes, the lighting. Originally the lighting was different but considering we scrapped the map I moved it to a different place and never bothered to change it back. I appreciate the feedback!

Looks really great so far! I really like the amount of depth and detail in the buildings, and I’m hoping that you’ll be able to go into at least some of the buildings when you finish this project.

Some things I would consider adding for better detail:

  • Add street lamps. Cities need to have some form of light besides sun when there’s no daylight. It would really add something.
  • More street markings. I see that you’ve already added cross walks, and those little stone path things in the middle of the street, but you could also add dotted lines going down the center of roads, and also other markings.
  • Traffic lights. Working or not working, it would really add to the effect of the city. If you’re not a scripter, you don’t have to go that far and make them fully functional (you could definitely hire people to do that sort of thing for you though), because it would still add to it.
  • Make logos or words on some of the buildings. It would really make it seem like a city, having business offices there. You can use real life logos and companies, but to be safer I’d stick with making up your own sort of knock-off brands (i.e instead of Apple, make it Pear or something). Although you can be totally unique with it too and make your own thing.
  • One last thing, billboards. Billboards may not seem like something that important, but if you add some, trust me it will make the city look a lot more like a real one. Again, you can use real advertisements, or you can make knock-off versions, or you can be totally original.

It looks really good so far, and I hope you make more projects like this as this is a really cool one! Keep up the good work, and good luck on this project and future ones!

On another note, though, I highly suggest you make your own companies in the game, rather than knocking off real ones, or using the real ones. It just adds a lot of originality.

Again, keep up the good work! Good luck!

Incredible city map! Really high quality. I have one suggestion, try to use different materials such as neon lights wooohoo pew pew rainbowwww cobblestone. I rate that a 9/10 :tada:

Keep up with the amazing work!

Really love the design you are going for if I’m not mistaken this isn’t fully finished yet overall it does look good.

Generally, I would say add a lot more detail to the road. Having all that empty spots and placing detail on the buildings then just one little area for the entire road is bland looking. Add some lines, some objects on the sidewalks like trash cans, signs, street lamps, litter on the roads and detail, the stuff you did with your buildings are very well made. Maybe some trees placed in the sidewalk like what you normally see when visiting city areas could work in my opinion, but if the roads are going to look plain it’ll look boring.

Maybe add a trash can near a building, benches, maybe street garbage, and pebbles. These little details could make your scene better. In the city itself, add some lamps, fire hydrants, maybe a cups thrown on the ground, etc. Throw a few objects on top of the buildings like vents, exit doors and more since your going off of a reference image you’ll know what to place on the buildings.

Other than it’s decent so far.

This is very nice, I only have a few suggestions:

  • Changing up the colors - adding more dynamic and realistic colors.
  • Adding textures instead of using the standard roblox materials
  • Using more lighter windows

Other than that, this is a very nice city and I hope it goes to good use.

I think it looks Incredible with the hard work and detail you put into it I think it’s amazing.

I really like the effort and design you put in, but make sure to have like some light poles or something but otherwise I think it’s pretty good!

Despite how little this may matter to your build, maybe add some shown conflict through the state of the streets, like broken down walls due to this zombie invasion or whatever you’d call it. Just something that also sets the mood for such a theme. I’d also say add some desperation of surviving, just something to get people interested in both the map and the game.

That’s actually funny because when I was building the map I completely forgot that I was making it for a zombie survival game. Regardless, this map was scrapped so I won’t be working on it anymore, I’m currently working on the new map.

Aw, that’s a shame, atleast you can use it for a portfolio!
