I made a game where if you type the word you get points, also if the chat says “Do not type the word” and the player type the word there will be consequences. Any ideas what to add?
Hey Hiro, I feel like this game has potential. It’s a very simple concept that has replayability.
I played your game for about 3 minutes, the simplicity of the current state of game started to bore me. However this can absolutely be fixed with some creative game elements.
What I would change:
I’m assuming the game is intended to be played on a server with 2-10 people. The words in the prompts were quite short, in a server with 10 people I would imagine this would be much more frustrating then fun, a three letter word just simply is too small for more then like 3 people to be competing over. I’d recommend that you add some kind of word length scaling depending on how many players there are to balance this out. Example: 2-3 player servers would probably have words 4-8 letters in length, 4-5 would have words 6-10 in length and so on.
Different devices will have different typing speeds. I think it’s pretty obvious that a player on a tablet will typically type faster then a player on a phone, with the buttons being bigger and all. And mobile devices almost always have access to autocorrect while keyboards do not. I played on a keyboard myself. However, I am also a very messy and slow typer on a keyboard. I would imagine that if someone played on their mobile device, they would almost always out-type me for those reasons. I think you should figure out a way to divide the players based on input to make the game more fair for all players.
As with all early builds of games, I found a bug. When I got around 10 words in, whenever I would type the word shown, it would take 2-4 attempts for it to go through despite the fact my spelling and capitalization was exact. To be clear, during my play session, I not once typed out a word that I wasn’t supposed to.
I think it should be more obvious when a new word is released and when you get a word right. Despite the fact that you will always be paying attention to the display that shows the word, a little noise definitely wouldn’t hurt. Same with when you get the word right, of course I played by myself so I’m not entirely sure if this game is more like a race to who can type the word fastest or if it’s just type the word get points, but theres just some primal human want to hear a satisfactory noise when you accomplish something!
I understand the whole concept of the game is very simple and straight forward, but it is for this exact reason why I got bored. I think there should be more to the game. One idea I can think of off my head is what if when a player doesn’t type the word out in time or they type a word out they shouldn’t have, there should be actual visible consequences, such as if maybe the camera pans to said players and the floor below them turns into a trap door that sends them into the unknown abyss for a round. Give the players something to keep them playing!
Overall I think your game could work out. It is of course in it’s early stages so to expect a masterpiece of a game is foolish idea. But I feel like there is much you can add to the game to really spice it up. I think I’ll keep tabs on your game if you don’t mind, I need to get better at typing anyways.
For now, I made the GUI visible to per player/client, since it would be upsetting if a player can’t win points. And yes, I will try to add more consequences. And for the bug part, did you not get a point when you type the same word shown?
