Hello! I am a solo developer creating a new simulator game. So far I have the basic game functionality and some gamepasses working, but I still have to add a map, codes, and an in-game store. I would love for people to test it out and let me know what they think, along with what they would add or fix.
A few suggestions, take them with a grain of salt;
But despite the title, I donāt feel like Iām lifting up paper (lol). I suggest adding an animation that makes the player lift the paper up and down with each click.
Also, is there a reason why the player freezes when picking up the things around the map? It seems the more the paper, the longer it takes. Is this intentional? If so, Iām assuming itās to reduce spam? Iām not sure. I just thought I broke the game at first.
Also, counting the stuff on the ground is a lot more fun/easier to collect than spam clicking, I ended up doing that more. (I only clicked 9 times before giving up and looking around the map.) If the main intention is to have users click on it to earn money, maybe reduce how often the stuff on the map loads in?
Also, I would really suggest dropping rebirth to maybe 10,000? 100,000 feels like a lot for this kind of game - however, Iām not sure whatās considered normal. Maybe make it where the first rebirth is pretty cheap and then the more they rebirth the more it costs? 1,000 the first time, 5,000 the next time, etc?
Iām no UI designer so I donāt have much feedback there - I didnāt find it too annoying or anything. It feels kinda huge though. And Iām personally not too fond of the transparency but thatās a personal preference and doesnāt effect the overall appearance of the GUI.
I do intend to add a lifting animation, I have it made I just have to figure out how to implement it.
Yes, the freezing is intentional, it does reduce spam but I also plan on possibly having a picking up animation. And yes it is intentional that it takes longer, the higher value the paper has the longer it takes, but more strength you earn.
I will lower the rebirth price and I will try to make the UI smaller.
Hey, so I am in your game right now and it is actually not that bad!
Here is a few helpful tips I can give you:
The title says āPaper Lifting Simulatorā but you are not actually lifting the paper in the game. All you are doing is literally holding a piece of paper and clicking it. I suggest that you may want to add an animation that makes the arm move, making it look like the person is actually lifting the paper(lol)
Whenever you collect the papers from the floor, the player freezes until the collection is complete. I am guessing this is to reduce spam but this makes the game play a bit more boring. It also makes people think that they broke the game for a split second.
Maybe also try to create a better terrain so they can actually have fun exploring the map, because right now it is not looking that fancy. The menus as well, all they have is just one colour per menu and huge writing on them. Maybe try to make the pages a bit more happy to the eye.
Also, it makes it pretty confusing when we donāt know your main point. Is your main point to make the players click to earn strength or to make them walk around to collect the pages? If it is too click, then I recommend you decrease a bit of the spawn-age of papers so if they collect all of them, it would lead them to continue clicking.
Also the rebirths, maybe you could make an increasing amount, maybe like 1000 for first, 10000 for second etc etc.
That is about it, I like the reset feature on the side and also I like the different designs on the papers.
Well done with the game and happy new year!
As I said in a recent reply the animation is something I plan on. Im actually in the middle of trying to figure that out. I realize that it does make it a bit boring, I can try reducing the wait time and I may add animations. I try to avoid that confusion by having the āCollectingā prompt. The rebirths do increase in price, but it starts out a bit high, but as I have said, I will lower it.
I will take all that you have said into consideration, happy new year to you too!
If you spam click, the animation will never finish, but there is still a debounce on how often you get strength from clicking. If thatās what you want it to do, than go for it, otherwise look into AnimationTrack.Stopped
You said the freezing on pickup was intended so I wonāt comment much on that
Gameplay
I personally feel like I should be clicking the paper on the ground rather than just walking into it, feels like it would be a more fun way to do it.
Besides that there isnāt much else to really comment on. I canāt give suggestions on if the Rebirth is too expensive or too cheap because you donāt have the shop implemented yet. You are obviously more focused on getting the core gameplay done right now so you havenāt spent much time on the map. If I remember to come back in the future Iāll give another review when there is more gameplay.
Thank you for the feedback! I was not aware of that bug so I will try to fix that. Would stepping on it or clicking work or should I redo the whole process of picking it up?
Thatās your personal choice, youāre the developer. I always make games how I would enjoy playing them, and then if there is horrible player feedback from it I will change it. If you prefer the player walking into it to pick it up, thatās what you should do. If you implement clicking the item and playing the animation and like it more, than thatās what you should do. Implementing that shouldnāt be difficult so I see no harm in giving it a try.
The map right now is very bland, thereās nothing to it except a spawn and a few walkways. You need to add something to the background of the map to make it stick out, for example you can add a few mountains around the map, or make the game take place in a bedroom, or bathroom. Something like that, I donāt know. Another thing is buildings and shops, you need to add shops that whenever you go inside of them or next to them, you get a UI pop up that shows you a bunch of upgrades you can do to make you get more strength. Another idea for the game is events like king of the hill, where thereās a hill or mountain, whatever. Where the longer you stay on the top of the hill or mountain, the more you get strength or you can make a separate currency for the event. Another idea is player duels where you can say /duel (player name) and it teleports you to a separate arena where you and that player can duel each other, then whenever a player wins they both get teleported back to the spawn, and whoever won that duel gets a lot of strength. Another idea is an obby course for players to do to get a reward, maybe the reward can be currency or a pet. A great idea are pets, a trading system, and crates. Pets are a big attraction for many simulator players, you can make a building to where you can buy crates, which unveil a type of pet and the pets rarity. A trading system will be great for this game, pets and currency can be traded a long with the trading system, which will attract many players. For the gamepasses you can have x2 Strength, doubles your strength per paper swing. x2 Speed, doubles your walkspeed. VIP, gives you a vip chat tag, name tag, vip paper, and a vip pet. Faster Earning, cuts your paper cool down time in half. Double Paper, the type of paper you own will be held in both hands, and will double your strength and damage per swing.
Thanks you for the feed back! Those are all amazing ideas. I did already plan on the map, buildings, minigames, obby, crates, pets, and trading. I also already do have a 2x Strength and No Cooldown gamepass. I will definitely look into adding a VIP gamepass.
Hi there!
Iād say you have a good beginning layout for a simulator game! just needs more content but thatās obviously coming as it is only in early development.
