Feedback on a "Tachi" revamp that I'm working on

I am currently revamping my old Tachi that I modeled way back in 2020. I thought it could use a new model since the first model was too high poly while looking very mediocre. I’ve completely remade the weapon’s blade, hamon pattern, grip and “Tsuba”, and was wondering what you guys thought of it!

I’ve used several new techniques that I’ve learnt just this year from other people for modelling this weapon. I do hope that the grip wrapping (Ito-maki wrapping) is accurate to how it is IRL! I’ve also used a new Hamon pattern style that I call the “Kikusui-midare” hamon, a fusion between the Kikusui style and the Midare style of hamons. I’ll post more progress here soon, as I’m also finishing the Saya (sheath).

Close-up on the Ito-maki wrapping:

disclaimer: please do not call this a katana as it is not a katana

It’s a katana. Jk lol

How many triangles does this have? And are you planning on texturing it in Studio or in Blender?

I plan on texturing this both in Studio and Blender, and I’m going to make different variants of it. It currently has 10,800 triangles, not counting the sheath. This is due to the new method I’ve used of making the wrap. However, it’s not going to lag anyone’s game. The other reason is due to the hamon pattern, which actually has more triangles than the blade itself.

do note that the different variants will have different hamon patterns, Tsuka types (grips) and Tsubas (handguards)

Like you said 10,800 triangles. As the limit for Roblox is 10,000 try to remove some triangles in places people wont see. also nice model i’ll give it a 10/10

This is really good! Great job and keep up this great work! Can’t wait to see what else you make!:upside_down_face::fire:

Oh, no no. The weapon is not 1 mesh. It’s made out of a couple separate meshes so I can import it into Roblox. Currently, it’s not possible to remove triangles as I’ve already done that some time ago. I’ll see what i can do, though.

Ahh ok ive seen that technique before all of the different meshes add up to the final product. I usally see it with the higher poly guns i guess thats how they are animated too. I can say though is good luck with your weapon

Thanks! However, some parts of the model will be intentionally separated as I want to texture them separately.

Good luck with that I heard texturing stuff can be hard work lol.

Thank you! I’ll be sure to update my post on its progress, or maybe make a separate one later on.
