I’ve been making a “YouTube Tycoon”, a mix between the game I used to play so long ago, and Game Dev Tycoon (by Greenheart Games for those who are familiar with that game).
Anyways, I’ve finished the whole process for setting basic settings for a new video, and now I’m thinking of implementing an “idea” mechanic.
The way it will work is that you can either choose between previously used ideas, or generate new ideas. You’ll essentially “brainstorm” (fancy for waiting) and generate ideas for your video depending on what genre you chose. Each of these ideas will have specific elements that are important for them (e.g. If the idea you chose was a game tutorial, having good playing would make or break your video).
That’s the basic structure that I don’t want to tweak too much. There are however, a couple things that I want possibly some feedback on:
-
Ideas will have a hidden value that will be called “freshness” (so creative), and if you overuse an idea, or just don’t have much difference each time you create new videos
-
A risk-reward thing where there we be a penalty for poor execution on high-tier ideas, to prevent just automatically people going for the ideas that will give them the most views
Let me know what you think!
