My goal was to create a realistic collapsed platform. The cause of the collapse is the buckling of a support column underneath. this was hard as up-close images and videos of a buckling support column was extremely difficult (for obvious reasons). So, I had to rely almost entirely on textbook images on what it looks like. I also had to manually find a way to twist the steel column, as there were very little available images that could be used, and the ones I found were very unhelpful.
This is still unfinished and relatively untextured
but from what is finished- does it look good? What can I improve on from a technical standpoint? is it realistic? Please let me know.
Looks alright. I would recommend using custom materials rather than those default ones, also, try messing out with the graphics for a nice cinematic shot.
Yea, as i stated i still haven’t textured it apart from smaller models and parts, but I definitely will go through at the end and find textures that suit it well :). Thanks for the feedback
I think it looks really realistic, especially the little debris on the second screenshot.
As @vyexon mentioned, I believe custom textures can also enhance the realism.
Also, I’m not sure but maybe adding a dirt or random soil kind of decal on some sides of the broken parts (or meshes or debris idk) with a little transparency could look good. Maybe for example the broken side of the column.
I just wonder how all the debris will affect the performance. Have you used meshes or unions?
I would also recommend changing the CollisionFidelity to box (assuming debris and broken parts are a union/intersect part or a mesh) if the players are not going to stand or interact with them as it may help performance. But keep in mind Im not sure, this is just a recommendation, I am not professional.
It looks good.
