Feedback on Diner Game (Rushed)

Hello there,

I’ve been working on this game for the better part of a week. I personally think it’s fine, but I feel like I need more of an outside perspective to improve on it.

Check out my game. I’d appreciate some constructive criticism.

Here are some preview thumbnails since my friend suggested I add some on here:

Things I added since posting:

  • Added more material variation, and improved the wallpaper texture (still a little shoddy, but it’s more aligned than how it originally was.)

  • Lowered the rain volume

  • Balanced out the volume on the jukebox

  • Fixed the rain bug (Rain was pouring inside the diner!)

  • More tree variation added.

  • Improved the thumbnails’ lighting and locations

  • Turned off R6 lock and made body type player’s choice

  • Fixed floating objects (Let me know if I missed any)

  • Toned down the blur

Good Things

  • Great lighting effects!

  • Great sound effects!

  • Great cafe design!

Bad Things

  • Material variation could be improved. Try to make some things different from wood.

  • Textures could be higher quality.

  • Rain is a little too loud on the inside

Overall, I like the style and feel of the game, try to improve on the things I listed to help make the game more enjoyable!

Got it, thanks for your input! I’ll see what I can do.

For what it is and the timeframe that it was made in it is okay. Though I do have a few suggestions.

  • No offense but I feel the thumbnails need some improvement. They just feel very low quality to me, and I personally would rather see something else there. Whether it’s a drawing, GFX or even just a higher quality screenshot I feel that any of those would be more pleasing to look at than what is there now.

  • The roof is WAY too high and the whole building feels just too large, almost in a cartoony or comedic way. I recommend bringing the roof down and overall making the building a little smaller in area.

  • Improve the outside of the dinner. The outside of the building and the forest around it, though not super important just feels lazily done and like you just copied and pasted the same tree model a bunch and called it a day. I recommend adding different kinds of trees with different sizes as well. I personally feel it would look better and bring a more realistic feel to the game in general.

Other than those three things I have no more suggestions and your dinner seems to be going in the right direction. Make sure to keep up the great work and never stop trying!

Was this made for the R6 player model… My R15 frame walks like it’s stiff. The way you sit looks odd. Again, may be something for the R6 player model. The roof being high is good for games, so I think that is fine. Seen a few floaters and there is this odd chunkiness to some objects on the edges. Like it just will not let my rig render it any better. Maybe too much blur going on. Also seems like it’s raining a bit hard. None of this is a dealbreaker… Just a few touch ups. I like the room and all the stuff in it and the concept. You did a good job.

Hey there Jay,
Thanks for your input. Can you specify the floating objects so I can fix them? Thanks.

I’m pretty hard core when it comes to that. Just walk around and really look at things. Have somthing you can wright down where that problem is, build up a list and go fix them. I swear that takes longer than creating a place itself. Also I did say little things. I’m just super picky about that kind of stuff on myself. I’m sure most wouldn’t even notice this stuff.
