I’m planning on advertising soon, but in order to gain a decent amount of concurrent players, I would need good thumbnails and good art. This is my 3rd try attempting to make an icon. I wanted to see how it looked out. And maybe ask yourself as well, would you click on this icon if it was in your sponsors?
One thing I appreciate in a thumbnail is one that’s clear on what it is. For example, if you’re making a shooter game, you should probably have people… well… shooting people in the thumbnail. Or at least, someone posing in a cool manner with a gun.
Based on the name, I would assume (emphasis on assume, and if I got it wrong that kind of makes my point) that this is some sort of survival horror game. In that case, it would lean more into the horror aspect. Maybe something like The Rake Remastered.
Now I’m not saying your thumbnail has to be as obscure as that, but leaning into an eerie angle would probably help (again, assuming I’m right about the game genre).
i suggest you give the zombie a bit more of a pose, maybe give the background, lighting and such more care as it could help with the look overall.
this could be done by… say, making the zombie have a darker color, and giving the background more stuff
looking at how it’s made, if you’re using studio, i suggest making the lighting itself a darker ambient or lower brightness, there’s also post processing effects you can utilize to add onto the icon itself.
The zombie did have a pose, but when I rendered the image in blender it looked sort of stiff. Also, you are limited to lighting when using paint dot net. I appreciate the constructive criticism, but it’s not necessarily meant to be a “scary scary” game.
Like I said, stiff poses rendered in blender. Genre really takes account in icon creation, but the genre is not necessarily what you think… Appreciate it.
Edit: It also kind of gives it a “mysterious” vibe.
The Experience Icon looks like a zombie has been pasted in the icon. You Should Make it blend in your surroundings. You should also make it look more appealing. The logo I suggest should be remade for example maybe make the text have blood dripping and a scarier font to fit in. I suggest posing as others have said before. I am assuming that it’s a zombie game since it’s in the icon I would make the icon in a town or some sort infesting with zombies. Overall, I rate it a 5/10 could be better.
If you’d look at the posts above, I did originally have a pose, but the way I positioned the camera it looked stiff. When you say “blend with the surroundings” what do you mean? Also, I’m not necessarily targeting a “scary horror” genre here (a sci-fi-mixed horror one), so adding blood and a scarier text won’t won’t really help. Nevertheless, I appreciate the feedback
If this is a sci-fi horror, does it take place in a lab? You need the express that in the icon. It looks more like a zombie apocalypse game than sci-fi horror. What I mean by blending in is that the zombie doesn’t really fit in the picture, it seems like it’s just there. Maybe use a different entity that will express the sci-fi horror that you’re going for.
