Feedback on Golf Game

Hi! For those who are interested, please take some time and tell us what you think the pars should be on each stage per course. Each course has 6 pars that add to a total par. All courses are functional except the Pirates course.

Okay gonna be generally honest! I love it; the main menu is simple and unique, the logo is cool! The loading screen I love the loading squares I love how they all fade separently and I love the party invite system; While the main game is straightforward, a quick tutorial on ball rotation could add depth. Despite some confusion with penalties, I see potential for this game!

Oh, and it would be great if there were elements covering the floating island on the map, and perhaps limiting the zoom out to prevent seeing beyond the map borders. Those are my only two criticisms, but aside from that, good luck with the future development!

We sure had a good game, Hollistic.

A first immediate impression is that the game looks good, considering that the basic mechanics are really simple and intuitive (I would avoid a tutorial to understand how to move a ball, 3 seconds of concentration are enough) I find that the construction of different maps is well structured and graphically satisfying.

I find the technical and graphic realization of the throwing mechanics less satisfying, perhaps it needs to be recalibrated and made a little more particular.

I like the idea of there being some kind of slingshot, but I would add some effect representing the tension of the string or the collision with the ball to make it a more exciting moment.

To tell the truth, the first thought that came to me when I saw this launch system instead of the classic dotted trail, was of two little men with two hammers who, when the player releases, simultaneously hit the ball to make it move. But only as a graphic effect.

I’ll try to do some more work on the slings. I can see an elastic effect being a nice addition.

We plan on adding powerups eventually, just not before release.

Aw man I thought this was an actual realistic golf game. :frowning:

Anyway just checked out the game and you did an amazing job with it! Menu is pretty cool and never see 3 courses now a days. Definitely a game that I’d play during my free time incase I’m bored.

Definitely very hard when it comes to releasing the ball and that’s a 10/10 for me since no one challenges anyone these days.

Other than that, pretty cool, I just wish you could use an actual club and actually golf.

PS: I deleted one of the posts because I thought this was going to be a realistic golf game and suggested giving VR support.

That’s all!

Thanks for the feedback! Can you elaborate on what makes releasing the ball difficult? Our course selection will continue to grow over time.

I didn’t mean releasing the ball was hard, I just mean’t its pretty hard to complete a course with only a par or less score.

The base is pretty solid, if not with some complications:

  1. I’ve noticed that the ball can be unresponsive to me clicking and dragging back.
  2. The first hole of the pirate map seems to be broken, unless I’m doing it wrong.
  3. The force applied to the ball feels like it’s in the direction of the camera’s lookvector and not the sling direction.
  4. And the sling needs some sort of visual feedback for force, something like changing the color based on a gradient would do nicely.

I hope this helps!

Thanks! I will be fixing the ball sensitivity very soon, as I have also noticed this. The pirate map is not finished yet. I believe the velocity of the ball is in the direction of the sling and not the camera, but I’ll double check this. Slings definitely need some sort of visual feedback,

You were right about the velocity being determined from the camera’s look vector. I will change this soon. Thanks for your attention to detail.

I had trouble finding where to use the “release” code, and the text input is white which made it hard to see while typing in the code

While its cool to have the Shop be opened by clicking the currency icon, I don’t think its obvious enough for the average or new player to figure that out

And lastly, having an indicator for when the ball is ready to be moved again would improve quality of life

Overall I enjoyed playing your game with my friend :+1:

I recently changed the shop, and I forgot about the code text, so thank you for finding that. I’ll for sure take into consideration your UX suggestions.
