Hello! My friends and I have started the development process of creating an adventure/medieval type of game.
We started terrain today and we will be doing terrain all throughout next week. I have one question I would like to ask and I would like some advice on the Volcano we made.
What are some areas we could improve on regarding to the volcano?
Now my question. We have an ice quarry we built with terrain, except how would I change the lighting so its really dark and hard to see? Here is an image:
You would try some fog, that only affects on the client-side whilst they are within the area. That’s only the visual improvement which is non-terrain.
For terrain, it is all too chunky and “bulky”. Would you try to polish it? Also please do add variety on the terrain of the volcano, it’s looking boring without mixing other terrain. It would look natural to make it random.
Is that Ice Quarry hole at the top the only hole? If so, it is most likely parts of shadows that failed to update. Try closing up the hole and see if that causes the place to go dark.
Don’t always use the terrain Roblox provides. With the bottom, I say use should add lights from a part that is transparent and also has no collisions on. If the terrain editor is your only choice, then at least mess around with colors and the material.
I have a few recommendations for you that may help you out. When using Roblox’s smooth terrain, I sometimes usually play around with the terrain colors. Just go to Workspace in the Explorer tab, click on “terrain” and in your properties panel, you can click the “Material Colors” drop down menu button to change the colors. I would recommend changing the rock color to be brown/green color, a mixture between the two. I would also recommend changing the lava color to a brighter yellow as well!
For the volcano base, I do have a cool technique that I do which involves painting over and over again with different terrain materials. Try painting the rocks of the volcano with a mixture of grass, leafy grass, asphalt, and mud. You can also repaint over again with even more rocks.
