I need some feedback on a beat I made, I might use it for a game, or might not, let me know some things I can improve on. Thank you!
For structures, I think this track lacks good cadences in its repetitiveness of chords. If you can slightly alter the chords, you may have something great already. This is good already to begin with.
For the sound itself, I think the bass is a bit too heavy on the sub. The kicks don’t really cut through so you might consider sidechaining them.
This beat isn’t so bad. Maybe just bit repetitive but other than that I’d be fine with it being background music.
I took your advice, I side chained the bass, I changed up the second drop and the part before it and it doesn’t sound half bad. Here take a listen.
this might just be jamiroquai, excellent work
This is a step in the right direction. Have you tried sidechaining the chords that the electric piano plays too? It gives it a little more of an airy feel.
Sidechained the chords, sounds good.
Gotta love that Open Hat B
It gets somewhat messy a bit later. I recommend applying some Equalizer effects, or lowering the amount of instruments used in some sections.
Added some EQ, boosted the bass, lowered the bass on the chords and upped the highs, and removed the open hat from the second part for more space, take a listen:
Yeaa now that’s what I’m talking about!!
The kicks, the chords, and even that robotic voice go so well together. Reminds me of Robot 64!
Also, how did you make that bassline? Did you use a sample or a specific VST?
I used a sample I recorded and put in the piano roll. Some 8th notes combined with slaps can make it bounce!!
Something I have been thinking about was the melodic part. It might need some rewriting and some improvements. You know how people can’t always sing continuously on all melodies and sometimes leave off notes? Try making it less dense and make it slightly more simple. You should also try some syncopations too alongside it.
