Hello! I’m a young artist that would like to land a job in the Roblox Development scene with my art! I know it isn’t GFX, but it is the only style I can work with for now.
I’d like some feedback to know if it’s good enough for a decent paying, or atleast small paying job, and if there is anything I should change about it? Thank you in advance if you reply.
Also this isn’t the only artwork, I will be creating more. I just want feedback on like the colors, the lineart, the background, anything for now really.
This looks amazing! You can definitely get yourself into the industry with work like this. I would recommend you start with commissions though since I’ve seen people aren’t as interested in 2D art for their Roblox games, as they prefer 3D GFX, but you can certainly get commissions from Roblox influencers (for example, profile pictures) to get started.
Also just a tip, but I recommend being careful when using halftones, especially when placed in important elements (like you did here with the main text) since most screens tend to react weirdly to it, making it less legible. You can still get away with using halftones for background details and certain parts of a character and make your art look even more eye-catching.
Good luck on your art journey, fellow artist!
Honest advice:
Don’t spend all your time on Roblox. The style you have isn’t Roblox specific and can be used on multiple platforms.
If you were to do Roblox commissions, I would recommend you only accept USD (or whatever your local currency is) instead of Robux.
It looks pretty good, and I’m sure Roblox is one place you could sell your art for 20-60 USD. But also you could sell to YouTubers and other people who generally need 2D art like this…
Also would recommend working commissions rather than long term jobs. Just taking a request, making it, and selling it is slot easier to start out with and do.
Oh wow, I had no idea about the half tone thing! I’ll try to use them more sparingly. As for commissions, do you have any tips of how I could go about doing it? I’ve tried and failed many times when it came to them (hence why I’d like to be apart of game development instead)
Hmm, I see. In that case should I just post my work online and hope someone likes it enough to hire me as an artist?
Also, I want to accept actual money as payment. However I there are no way for me to accept money internationally. I am a minor so I don’t have access to PayPal yet. I thought robux could be an alternative because I can cash it out with the DevEx program.
Well when using DevEx you actually need some form of banking account to receive the money from. You also at least 30k robux at the minimum to cash anything out.
Unfortunately according to my knowledge a checking account will not do as you would need a banking account that can send and receive money without having to go to the bank to get the money out or put it in.
I’d suggest making yourself a commission sheet or a website if you want something more elaborate, containing all info ranging from prices to terms of service and examples of your work, then publishing it and promoting yourself as much as you can on different platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok and Discord have worked the most for me at least since there’s a very consistent amount of traction for art content. Tiktok has the most reach out of all of them though, if you use hashtags correctly and make your content interesting enough, while Twitter and Instagram serve more as art galleries, and Discord, other than art-related servers, helps more with the communication).
If you want to receive payments through Paypal (I saw in the thread you were having issues with Dev-Exing), you could ask for your parent’s consent to use their info to set up a PayPal account to protect your information and there shouldn’t be any problem. Dev-Exing can be complicated considering all the tax-filing forms and pending times, so Paypal is a better and way quicker option that most people will be willing to work with (and if you’re from the States, you can also afford to accept Cashapp and Venmo).
And just as an extra tip: If you really want to work on Roblox Developing instead of off-platform commissions, I’d suggest looking for jobs on the Talent Hub if you haven’t already. Although there are mostly job offers for scripters, builders, animators, UI designers, etc, you can still find a few 2D-art-related offers you could pick up if you meet the requirements.
I don’t agree with this. Now more than ever for game passes and logos people are going for more of a 2D cartoony style. You can make a lot of money working for simulator games and roleplays!
Yeah, that is unfortunate. I would ask your parents for help managing finances, but if that’s a no go I still wouldn’t recommend robux as someone buying 25 dollars worth of robux converts to basically nothing for you in the end.
I think you should set up a commission page or something its just difficult for people to find you in the flood of all the other commissions but if you do enough, post your work and stuff like that it will help alot
also if your aloud there’s a good amount of discord servers like hidden devs were you can post your work
I would say about 40 to 60 dollars really good
im currently working on a 2d game and ill definitely keep you in mind if I need ui or an icon
Oh! Thank you so much for considering my artwork to be in your game . I’ll try to join a few Discord Servers to get my work out there, as well as create a commission sheet.
