Feedback on my beat,

I made a beat, it might be used for a game, or might not, or might go on my portfolio, or might not, I just need some feedback on how I can improve it, Ill give you a pat on the back if you guess what producer I got inspired by :upside_down_face:

Anyway, heres the beat:

Thank you! Though I wasn’t inspired by any sonic games, but good guess!

I don’t think the instruments currently glue well together at this current moment. The sounds are more coincidental and the repetitions aren’t well-used for their purposes. A very light amount of compression could be useful, and then an extensive examination on the tonality.

Okay, I added a little OTT on the master, if that’s what you meant by compression? And can you tell me what doesn’t glue together, bass and the synth?

I checked the key for each instrument, they are all in the key of C major, or am I missing something?

I have a pad, bass, synth and pluck for the first part, and another keyboard for the little melody in the second part of the song, is that too much?

For your information about the compression, it’s not about multi-band compression. Don’t just slap it on without thoughtful idea on whether your work needs it. I’m referring to a regular compressor for this case. The OTT just kills the transients and phases, especially for the bass and sub range. The only case I can see it work is when the BPM is high enough to diminish its negative effects.

For the tonality, I actually meant the chord choices and the progression overall. It only goes in circles without much rhythmic shifts to set clear distinctions in structure. It’s not only about putting them in the key.

The instruments are fine, it’s just their rhythmic repetitions are not giving the right power it needs, especially when it is incessant.

So basically what you’re saying, change up the chords on the second part? maybe a key switch?

It is only subtlety you need to add in, not a full change. It is the little things that can change a lot.

Alright, ill try some things and get back to you.

I got a 1-2-1 kind of thing going, I kept the normal, changed the rhythm on the second part and came back to normal. Anyway, heres what I got:

This beat sounds good, nice job on it! How long did it take to create? What did you create it in? Will you be making more beats? Did you make this from scratch?

It took around 1-2 hours to create, I made it in FL studio, I will probably make more, depends if I need more for my portfolio. And yeah, I made it from scratch.

It is very good! the beats are actually really cool. The changes you made to the song made it less repetitive.
