Feedback on my first realistic build

Recently, I have started to think about building in more of a realistic way. So I have decided to create my first realistic build. It is a abandoned factory. Tell me more things I could add. Here is the link to the game [Abandoned Street - Roblox]

I think it looks great. Keep up the builds! I suggest you make the windows and bricks more blended in into the walls though.

It’s missing a roof, it’s the first thing you notice from looking at it

Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the factory from different angles

I assume those are mostly decals on the front of the building, so you should crop the decals on the outer parts of the builds since they look kinda squished. It looks great though!

Thanks! I will try to add that.

For your first realistic build this looks pretty good. One thing I would do is use textures if your doing a long stretch of your building because you can mess around with the offset and the studs of the image your using and it will make your building alot cleaner rather than using a normal decal.

If this is your 1st attempt, you’re going to be really amazing at this some day. I like how you added some broken glass, but I see some of the decals are a bit stretched and low textured.

This is a really good building actually - pretty great for a first attempt at the realistic aspect!

However the entire building looks like you placed a bunch of decals onto it, I would try adding different shapes instead of having two big parts duplicated on the building since you’re going for a more abandoned approach, maybe try adding (decal textures) or dirt on the building with some broken parts of the building itself and on the ground to make it have that abandoned feel to it if you can plan on adding this in the woods or a place we’re there’s another building surrounding it. I think it’ll add a nice touch to the overall design.

It’s a nice attempt going for a realistic look.

I have a few nitpicks:

  • The factory chimneys (or smokestacks) are a bit close together, and too tall. You should make them different dimensions and more spread out along the roof. When you look at pictures of other factories, the smokestacks tend to be in a row as shown below:

  • The area around it should also give off more of the abandoned feel that the factory gives off. Maybe add some trash on the ground, and put some graffiti on the lower down walls.

Other than that, this is an amazing build (far better than I could do) and especially good considering this if your first realistic build.

It doesn’t look that bad if you use it as a background for the game, but if you want to add this as one of the main buildings to enhance the aesthetic I suggest you add more details, including:

  • Do not rely 100% on realistic textures, it doesn’t add any depth to the buildings and look terrible if you are too close to it, some are stretched, have different quality, and doesn’t fit each other. You could use it for smaller details like the broken glass and the material of the wall but other than that it’s just a bad move.
  • Add actual 3D details to the building, it would look much more better and clearer even if it’s not that detailed, it will add more depth, lighting, and structure to the building itself instead of just being a bunch of huge blocks with textures on it.
  • Always use references, you don’t instantly create a building out of nowhere, you have at least seen it once and have tried to invent it from your own mind and imagination, use images that resembles the aesthetic and structures you want for the finished product as a guide.

I like the Valve/Half-life Style you used.
The only thing I really recommend is that you put holes in it.

Hello there,

First of all I wanna agree to past feedback and comments on this post, and then I wanna say my personal opinion on this.

It does look pretty for a first build. I’d suggest using textures as well, because they’re easy to use, and they look pretty amazing, if you pick the right ones for your own game.

Later on, you can work on the lighting, and add that ‘‘realistic ambience’’ to your game.

Maybe add just a small roof as well, as someone stated in a past post before.

Another good thing to do is, search up what you want to build, and get inspired by google images, so that you know what you want to build and create.

I would say this is quite good for your first build! However I think that maybe an abandoned factory should have a darker shade of red? Just my personal preference.

I agree with all of the above answers, and I think this looks like it will be a great build once improved. Although, personally, I don’t think using a bunch of decals makes a build look more realistic. In my opinion to look realistic a build has to have depth, and decals just don’t work for me. I don’t go outside of Roblox textures either because I feel it just makes the game look weird. One more thing, maybe add some more detail to it before calling it done. Overall, nice build.

This looks good, although, I recommend not stretching out the decals and just copy-pasting them or try and find a looping patterned one and use it as a texture, anyway this looks pretty good

It seems kind of bland and the textures are streched also if you are trying to do a semi-realistic build i reccomend you just use the roblox tools in my opinion.

This is very nice, i’d suggest changing up some of the walls - instead of having a full wall of texture (as the texture stretches)
Other than that this building does look pretty nice.

Judging from what I see, It’s just decals used on simple buildings. I would recommend looking at some concept arts or something to help with how to build and make it look more alive and 3d then being just a image.

I’ll link some concept art you can use to help you out if you’d like:

I would say to try and reduce your decal usage, one thing with realistic builds that is key is depth, an example of depth would be:

As you can see things like the pillars have a lot of 3D shapes instead of just a straight smooth pillar, also there is less use of decals! Otherwise great job .
