Hi everyone, As the title says, this is my first Roblox game. While I have experience as a developer, it’s the first time I’ve created a Roblox experience.
I’m not a designer, so to learn, I used assets from the toolbox; my idea is to create a new map from scratch next. However, I want to validate and get feedback about the progress so far.
My main concerns are:
It seems users do not discover the game. The number of visits is very slow
It seems people only stay for a very short time before they leave. I don’t think they even try to play it. I’m working on adding analytics to know more. However, given the low amount of users, I’m not sure if I will be able to get much information
The lobby is a separated place, and it’s not showing the players that are in the main game place, I’m thinking this may be a turn off when someone is invited to the game and when he joins not seeing their friend on the user list? Not realizing they are already inside of the main game.
The main category is a find the key type of game, but given the map is kind of large, maybe it’s too difficult?
Is the intro video explaining the basics of what the game objective is?
Anyways I really appreciate your time and feedback, I will take anything you say as constructive and use it as part of my learning journey.
Hello Tuxvader! I see that the icon for your game is made using Ai Image Generators. I would definitely recommend a drawing or a Roblox screenshot. You can set up scenes in a new baseplate by moving around parts and characters, and then taking a screen shot for your game!
This would draw more players toward your game, because people feel that games with AI thumbnails seem low quality.
Thank you, @MillionaireMario; you know now that you mention it, I tend to avoid playing games with AI-generated icons myself because, more often than not, they don’t deliver what the image promises.
I am VERY bad at designing myself, but I will try the way you suggest.
One problem I did notice was that when taking screenshots, UI elements are not captured. For example, I have a LOCK icon next to a door that needs a special key to open it, and that is not shown in the capture.
this is better than the ai image , also i think it would look a bit better if you made the player’s arm with the gun go a bit lower and add some glowing parts that come out of it to make it looks like they are firing
get rid of all the ai stuff it was cool when it was new but now it only equals low effort. Add sound effects when you swing and when you hit a zombie, make it so when a zombie is on the ground he can’t damage you, add an execution animation when the zombie is down with your bat add a meaty sound effect and camera shake, these changes alone will make the gameplay 2x better
Good icon. Place the title somewhere, probably near the bottom-right corner. Give it a good font, something captivating. I would reccomend using “Black Ops One” as it. Well done!
Thank you!, I might have to think of a better name as well.
Honestly, I’m struggling with traffic, with no visits at all and no retention, so I’m not sure if the problem is that the game is not fun enough or people don’t like the pre-made map.
I’m doing a dumb choose your door game to try to bring teleport traffic to this one, or earn some robux to pay for ads. I don’t want to give up on this game yet.
Quick update: I finally ended up changing the name and tried to focus it on the main objective of the game, which is to find keys and escape. And was able to see some people playing while I was on the game as well, I realized there were 3 main issues (that I could detect)
The lobby is a different place and you can’t see your friends, so when you accept an invitation you think your friends left the game, when in reality they are in the main game place. I plan to move the lobby to the same place and put it away from the game map.
When players die they lose and I took them to the lobby, after seeing some players I think that may be frustrating, so I added respawn to the game so you only lose when time ends.
It seems to be very difficult, too many zombies, and on top of that I have a rule that for each zombie that dies, the system creates 2 more, for a total of 120 max. So instead of starting with 30, I am now starting with 5, I think the initial shock was too much… Maybe I add a rule of adding a new zombie every 5 minutes of so.
