Feedback on my ISS Tracker

For over 1 year and a half, I had this fun little project picking up dust so I decided to finally finish and polish it to showcase it here. Basically what it does is show you the live position of the ISS (International Space Station) in a visual and convenient way.
It’s up to you to choose from the 3D (globe) view or the 2D (planisphere) view, have fun!

Planisphere view demonstration:

Q: Can I try it out for myself?
A: Sure you can! All you have to do is join the following experience:

Notes:

  • Due to Roblox limitations, I had to fake the position of the sun because it is not possible to possibly position it to where it is IRL without having the skybox fade out and lighting change.
  • This game fully supports touch screens and is even pretty fast on the lower end phones/tablets.

And most importantly, I hope you’ll like it!

That is actually so cool. How did you do it?

While it might look complicated it is actually simple, basically it uses two different public APIs (one in backup in case the other one fails) then updates the clients every 2 seconds with the new ISS position

Does it need an external device running to work proper?

This is truly a thing of beauty, in how you have taken publicly accessible data and transformed it into a view of the world most of us will never see and experience. Now, just to sit and wait until it gets near my house

Not even! If you’d like to get a glimpse of how it works and what the server sees, you can check out the following links:

https://api.wheretheiss.at/v1/satellites/25544
http://api.open-notify.org/iss-now.json

Both technically do the same thing but as I said ; it is for safety measures, you can’t never be too sure when the main API will be in maintenance or DDoSed in some cases…

If you want to have some fun you can even see how much people there are in space!

The possibilities are endless

It’s good knowing that astronomy is not as niche as I thought among Roblox developers

This is one of the coolest projects I’ve ever seen

I hope you create something similar to this
