I think the chord progression is rather terrifying in its qualities than actually cartoonish, honestly. It must be those minor or major seconds. Additionally, the percussions and drums seem disconnected between the other elements. Almost as if they don’t really follow the sounds? Follow the rhythm! If it doesn’t work, try simplifying the hi-hats. The cartoonish rhythms are quite catchy, but this is straight-up hammering and clanking down cacophony.
Let’s take a look at the mixing. Uhh… wait… mixing?
On this note, the strings are moved a bit too much in the foreground and makes steady clashes with the piano once in a while. It seems both instruments are virtually in each other! There are many techniques to solve this, including some good EQing(a very good practice!). Some other things to note is that the piano seems to be playing on the lower octave ranges… it makes it sound boring and almost lifeless!! Shocking!
The kick is boomy and usually helps with some good bell cut somewhere to mitigate this. Oh, and apparently, the snare has a pretty sharp transient(and slightly too harsh around 8k to 16kHz). A little too sharp to my liking I think!
With all these points made, I assess this with a rather okay-ish quality to the genre, but needs definite work to understand the rhythm.
