Feedback on my new debate game

Over the last couple of months I’ve been working on a new debate game inspired by “therapy” and “Up For Debate” called “The Debate”, and I want to get some feedback on the game and what I should add or not.

The premise of the game is, you guessed it, debating. You spawn in a map similar to that of “therapy” and you head on over to a room to go up to a stage and pick a topic to debate on. Once you pick your topic, you await another to come up the stage and debate with you over select topic. You both get a minute to debate about the topic, and then the audience votes for a winner towards the end.

I also really need help and advise for advertising it as I currently do not have a lot of funds to sponsor the game.

The premise of this game is actually quite good, I like it.

I’ve got a few things for you to think about though:

  • It isn’t very new-user friendly.

    • The game doesn’t tell you where to go or what to do at all.
    • The “debates” take place behind closed doors. It would actually be much better for them to be visible to a brand-new player off the bat because it gives them a sense of direction.
  • Difficult to advertise.

    • I assume you’re going to advertise this game via Roblox’s sponsorship system. This is bound to be troubling because the game is 100% reliant on there being active players participating in your game.
    • Roblox players have a tendency to leave quickly when they don’t have a sense of what to do.
    • Best case scenario is the game gains exposure from a content creator.
  • Too many rooms.

    • I wholeheartedly believe that less rooms that are larger would be much better.
    • Try your best not to split too many players apart. The more enjoyable debates are, the higher your player retention gets.
  • Too reliant on player input.

    • I do like the fact that players are given complete freedom as to what they want to debate about, but maybe a suggestion system could encourage more players to participate.

These are the main things I noticed from the 5 minutes I spent looking around. I couldn’t actually play the game because there were no players, so I can’t help you much with that.

Cool game, good luck.
