Hello everyone, I have been working on an obby game, although it came out decently, I think I can still improve some things. Currently, the game has a stage selection system and stages save.
Planned Features: Skipping stages with coins, adding background music, more stages.
I would like some feedback and some new ideas to make the game better. All feedback is appreciated.
Hello there! I noticed a few things and have some suggestions.
There is a slight delay in updating your current stage value once you touch a checkpoint.
Add a fade effect for the disappearing snow.
Add a small hub prior to each area/zone.
At the moment, the obby feels a bit empty. Add decorations, such as floating islands, along side the stages to fill in the empty space.
I would avoid reusing stages too often and ramp up the difficulty of the obby the further you progress.
You are able to skip the first stage by pressing the “1” on the UI.
Spawn players at their current stage when they rejoin.
Rather than having a UI that allows you to teleport to stage 1 to stage X, allow players to switch between stages via arrows. Yes, you can type the stage already, but having arrows can be convenient at times.
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll work on some of them. I made the snow (actually that was supposed to be a cloud) lower transparency before going invisible, I made players teleport to their current stage, I’ll work on the arrows to teleport to other stages soon. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to add decorations since I’m not a very good builder. Thanks for the suggestions though!
I think it starts too difficult for new players, especially those who don’t play obbies (like me). Also, stage selection UI is in the worst position possible, because at certain camera positions it covers up the platforms making jumps even harder.
Personally, I don’t find initial stages very engaging and it’s more of the same as far the eye can see, so I wouldn’t be playing for long.
Hello, thanks for the feedback but it starts pretty easy, and never gets too hard. Were you playing on mobile? Obbies are too hard for non obby players on mobile. Also, where do you suggest placing the stage selection UI then? I wouldn’t want to put it in a corner because I bet half the people wouldn’t even notice it.
As an example, Obby Escape starts easy, yours starts with pretty frustrating precision platforming. And if you’re sure that stage selection is that important so it has to cover platforms in a platforming game, then I don’t think I will be able to help you with game design feedback
It doesn’t cover the whole screen, only the bottom part of it. Also, the stages are pretty easy especially at first. I don’t think someone who hates obbies would play an obby either way. I might try to make the stage selection a bit smaller, but I don’t think I’ll manage to do it.
I remade the stage selection GUI and made it a bit smaller, and made it work with arrows like @TashiSr said. However, I can’t really make the first stages easy, because most players already said they are too easy.
