Feedback on my new sword and animations

Hello, i just finished making my new sword animation and i want to hear feedback from the community.

This is the idle animation of the sword:

And this is the swing animation.

Do you think they look great? If not what should i add to them?

Good start. I think the idle animation is lacking.

Perhaps instead of holding the sword really close, the player holds the sword to their side.

Exactly like the one on the left. But just animate the arms, that way you can overlay the idle animation over a walking animation.

With the swing animation, you should add more build up. Like the player grabs the sword and then swings. I like the fast paced animation, so make it really fast, but you should also make more then one swing animation. One for a swing from the left, from up-top, just anything you can think of.

thank you for the feedback. i will do the things you said such as multiple swing animations, but i intended the sword to be a “longsword” which is usually held with two hands.

“A powerful and versatile weapon, the longsword is used for hewing, slicing, and stabbing . The sword is commonly held in combat with both hands (although some may be used single-handed). The blade of the sword is straight and predominantly double-edged.” -Medieval Weapons: Longsword. Types of Longswords, Facts and History

Alright, if you’re going for a longsword, I think the idle animation should reach forwards. So both hands would be on the handle, and they would be extended directly in front of the torso.

Hope that helps!

The sword looks great, however I see no endlag on the swing. If you are unaware,an animation is usually Startup (Windup like yours) , Actives (The moment after the startup where it actually does the damage) and Endlag (The sword slowly losing velocity as you’re trying to stop the sword).

Imagine yourself swinging your fist around.Would you ever hit something and then you stop your fist entirely… Probably not,You’d most likely still move your fist a little distance in order to stop the momentum.

Hopefully this could help with visualising how follow through and endlag works.
