Feedback on my unsuccessful release

Hi, I’ve been working on this game for a while and recently advertised a sponsor for 5k, but received extremely few players compared to the other games in my group for far less.
(max 5 concurrent players on this game with 5k, 100-200 on others with 1-2k)

In past games I’ve learned:

  • An intriguing thumbnail is extremely important for kickstarting CTR
  • Player retention is determined by the opening sequence of gameplay within the game and hype of what’s to come
  • Having a multitude of players at once makes a game feel a lot more lively

Attempting to integrate all these concepts, I created a one-piece themed game meant to garner clicks but also include quality PVP/PVE and grindable items.

Unfortunately, I have received extremely little CTR with the thumbnail but maintained an average playtime of 20 minutes (very good for my games, I think people just lack interaction with other players as that was a key concept of the game)

I don’t know where to go with the thumbnail to make it attractive and I don’t know where to go with the game itself, as combat mechanics seem sufficient and the starter island is a pleasant introduction to the concept of the game. (there is much more exciting content, but later in the game)

Does anyone have tips to improve CTR and interactivity within my game?

Thanks.

The link doesn’t take me to your game.

Looking over your game at the moment

At first glance:
‘Info’ needs to be concise. The purpose is not to sell the game since they are already joined, they need to know how it works quickly. Most people just skip tutorials so most people aren’t going to read all that either.

Hello! I’m not an expert on this type of things, but here’s a few things I found when playing the game:
~What I liked~
1. the map seemed really large, which encourages me to keep playing and exploring. The builds are also amazing, further encouraging me to explore it (what’s to come)
2. I like the quest, and liked the variety of attacks
3. The UI looked clean
4. The builds look amazing!

~problems I found~
1. The start is too difficult. On my first battle, I died to one of the attacks (forgot their name) instantly. This might discourage people from continuing. (The starting sequence)
2. I saw that people could roll. I did see a sidebar where you can see the keybinds, however I couldn’t find the roll keybind until 10 minutes later.
3. The combat feels not super satisfying to me, because of the slowdown when you punch and because you can’t attack when you are being attacked. However, that’s just my opinion, and other people might have different ones

Overall, the game is good! Winning fights is slightly luck based, though. It depends on which player has better internet (NPC’s being the servers internet).

Playing a little bit more:

The combat is underwhelming in contrast to how you’ve talked it up.

You are having memes like ‘Skibidi Toilet’ and Nikocado in the thumbnail, and the description implies we will see more of that because of Ohio. Immediately upon joining there is nothing such to be found, not even dialogue trying to be funny like in DBZ Final Stand.

It just feels like another bandit beater and if I joined my friend playing this game I would click off after 2 minutes, it’s just like the others.

Great critique, will take this into account.

Most unique one piece game lol

While I intended the thumbnail to encourage the playthrough at the start of the game, this is a valuable take. I’ll see what I can do to improve combat and make the beginning of the game more interesting.

This is what I was going for but it doesn’t push you into the unique gameplay immediately which is something I was worried about on release
