Currently I’ve been working on a project, and I’ve decided I want to make some original songs for it. Basic rundown of what the game is like, it’s a sort of “party game” where you balance yourself on top of balls until the time runs out (you can look into it a bit more here.)
When thinking about it as a party game, it reminded me of the large amount of fun couch multiplayer games on the N64, so I decided that’s what I want my music to sound like, like a N64 game!
So I came up with this song for the lobby-
I really like it, and I think I nailed the “sound like an N64 game” part. I love the second part, it sounds PERFECT and something I can imagine someone getting nostalgic over. Although, the first half I’m not so sure about. It sounds nice, but I can’t shake the feeling that I missed the mark somehow.
So what better way to decide if its good or not than strangers on the internet? Feel free to tell me what you think, and possibly even ways to improve it!
Sounds great, one issue is that some instruments/notes feel suuuper offkey. Especially the first chord in the fourth measure.
I can’t tell whether it’s just the choice of notes or the sounds themselves. Did you happen to go out of the original key?
The second part sounds great, but I’d also make it longer if I were you.
I agree. A lot of old video game music, especially ones made by David Wise or Koji Kondo really took advantage of lower pitched instruments, or used more lower notes to compliment the main melody in general.
