Feedback on realistic houses

Hello again Dev Forum!

I’ve been working on some houses based off of Belgian architecture and I would like some feedback and criticism on them as one of my commissions for the Belgium Armed Forces.

I’m also thinking on adding some more houses, but I don’t know how they should look.

They look so realistic! Maybe consider putting light fixtures next to the doorways?

They look incredible! As CJ_Angel said, it does need some light fixtures.

Thank you both for the suggestion, I added some light fixtures around the doors but I have mixed feelings about them, I’d appreciate if you told me what you guys think!

I think they look great! Later maybe add a walk way after you’re done creating the houses themselves.

Looks amazing. Do the windows have any shine to them? I can’t tell.

I set the reflectance on them to 0.4, they might not shine as much as they’re not facing the sun and are in the shade.

Ah ok. That makes sense. Another thong you could do with the windows is make them glow orange using neon.

So I tried out your suggestion just now, I wouldn’t really say that I like the way it looks in my opinion, I don’t know, it just feels off to me. I’d like some feedback though!

Looks really nice. Are you going to publish this a showcase?

It’s a commission for a group called Belgian Armed Forces, it’s going to be in their new training academy which will release soon. Here’s the link to the group incase you’d like to check it out.

Oh ok. Thanks man. I will make sure to check it out.

I would make the window’s color closer to black, and add a touch of transparency. Otherwise, looks outstanding!

The window colour is already set to black, it may be the reflectance that makes it have this blue-ish effect.

Nice! I think all you’re missing at this point is other small details to liven it up & break up the symmetry.
Some examples might be:

  • Numberplates – a flat, shiny rectangle under a sconce and/or on a door would work without using actual numbers
  • Small cracks/moss/debris near lower sections
  • Posters or a flag – the group might have some assets
  • Plants/Planterboxes – IMO i’d do only 2 or 3 on the red building, and that middle-section has a great space for a large one on the roof that hangs down.
ok nitpicking time

  1. There’s orange on these two grates – is that intentional?
  2. These three corners and connections aren’t lining up properly
  3. The door’s details aren’t working with the shape of the door frame. I’d opt for something simpler, like a circular window with a frame.
  4. There’s a few blobs of the darkest bricks on the red building, and they don’t look that great.
  5. Reducing the reflectance (juuust a bit) on the windows can actually help them look a bit more realistic, since they’ll pick up the overall environment while still having their own color.

Other than all that, great build!

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, the orange grates on the middle fences are intentional, I will go and adjust the other irregularities and see if I can add some plants, debris or flags anywhere!

So, using a similar screenshot angle, I tried to fix some of the imperfections in the build.

I fixed the colour on the bricks slightly (made them almost the same colour to make it more consistent than the last bricks).
I fixed the door’s details and I’ll get to making a new door to replace that one soon.
I fixed the three corners so that they hopefully line up.
I reduced the reflectance on the windows from 0.4 to 0.2.

Sadly I couldn’t find any plants, debris, flags/posters around the map. I’d add my own but it wouldn’t stay consistent with the realistic nature around the map as I do not know how to model nature assets on the realistic side.
