Feedback on Render

Introduction

I have recently made a game icon (more like a placeholder render for now) for an upcoming 2D Fighter I am making. Before I started doing visual work on this render, I wanted to get feedback on the perception on this render from the community.

Summary of the Game

In short, you fight other players and once your “synthesis” meter is full, you “fuse” with your robot companion (the robot bunny in the picture, also a placeholder) and obtain some new form of abilities. This game is suppose to be just a small, fun game where you have fun fighting your friends/other players.
Here is the link to the game for those who want a better idea. Game is still in rough stages.

Render

Aside from the following:

  • The seriousness of the eyes of the sword wielder.
  • The dark, suspicious background.

what about this render would lead you into a different perception of how this game would play, and how would I change the poses/lighting/characters/etc. to fit the description given above?

The image looks like an ice skating rink. At first I thought the bunny and sword might have been part of the background. There’s little room for subtlety with this kind of thing. To get a message across to a wide variety of people it should be so obvious literally anyone could understand it.

So here’s one idea. Kids learn about addition at a young age. Let’s say you have the person, the bunny, and the fusion lined up in an equation. Person + Bunny = Fusion. Maybe the fusion guy would have to be on a separate line just to make good use of the space.
