Feedback on the current-state of this low-poly Pirate themed island!

Hey! I’m looking for some feedback on this pirate themed island! (More to come soon, of course.)

It looks great i think you should use roblox grass to make it even better! Great work!!

I do like the plugin I am using though, thanks for the suggestion though!

In the last picture (with the paw print banners) there seems to be a sort of a blank area. I would add huts maybe some tents and more vegetation into that area to fill it up and add some more detail to the island.

Yeah yeah, I have a modeler making a shop! (game is based off of seas of thieves)

You could add a NPC that tells the Player how the game works, that would be something really cool.

Even if you like your grass plugin, i would still try out the roblox grass. In my opinion it matches better with the ground.

Other than that, the Map looks fantastic :+1:t3:

Thanks! I will definitely try ROBLOX grass, but I prefer the plugin I’m using because I can make the grass look more how I want it. Lol!

(And there’s different variations of grass types)

Alright then i suggest you to make your grass a bit darker so it matches with the ground :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ll probably end up changing the ground color anyways, but, yeah. Thanks!

I must say, this is a nice, small piece of work that you’ve created and I can only assume that it’s currently within the creation stages as of right now. There’s some things I want to address right now though.

  • There’s a lack of activity going on around the island - unless if you purposely want it to be desolate for the purpose of it being apart of an archipelago or just a random small island, then I would suggest adding either more vegetation or human settlements, such as wooden houses or a small village.

  • Your assets could probably use less obvious polygons, considering that you’re trying to optimise them. Low poly isn’t an art style, but I would still work on cleaning up some of the assets you made, such as the wooden barrels.

  • You could try and use low-poly terrain if you wanted to but I quite like the blend of Blender assets against realistic terrain. I think you could add some more rocks using the Paint tool in particular, and by raising some areas of land.

  • I would change the colour of your water and make it more transparent, at around the 0.9 - 1 scale and add ShadowMap lighting. After that, I’d suggest adding some Sun Rays using SunRaysEffect and by generally messing around with any other lighting configuration settings to make the atmosphere feel more crisp.

Hopefully I have provided enough suggestions for you to improve your build, and I wish you luck with anything else that you choose to build in the future.

Looks great! try to add ROBLOX grass and try to figure out a good lighting for this scene. It also could have a like a camp were the sand is in the middle. Just add something there so it doesn’t look super empty. It looks it could be for a story game! Overall great work.

Yup!

  1. I’ll stick with terrain.
  2. I have added shadowmap lightning, and done some things with vegetation.
  3. I have added sunrays and all.
  4. It’s still a work in progress, + I will probably add more rocks, but I like the look of the barrels.

I’ve also done this. It was suggested to me by someone on Discord.

The island looks awesome the only problem is that the grass on top is like olive green and doesn’t go well with the rest of the island. I suggest adding rocks, caves, different kinds of trees. I’m pretty sure you are also going to add a pirate ship but probably add like a hut village where this big area of the sand is. Maybe add a volcano? Try adding bushes as well. I don’t know about pirate stuff but those are some basics. If your gonna make an interior in the ship try adding a prison, etc… This is awesome overall I can’t wait to see the improvements you made over time. Anyways, keep up the work and good job! :ok_hand:

I wont have a village, not on this island at least. They’d be considered towns, by the way. I’ll be adding a show where the sand is, this is just like a small island that players start on. It’ll probably get expanded for caves and such, and uh we’ll have more than one island so we may put a volcano on one?

Also I should include these…

Maybe add a campfire to really bring it alive, I guess. Seeing that it’s a pirate island, maybe you could add an armory?

Not really, I have a modeler doing something like this; image
That’ll go where the empty sand area is.

Since its low poly, changing the lighting and terrain colors might be a good idea. I usually go with a yellow outdoor ambient and a brighter more vibrant grass color.

I may do this, although the game is supposed to be like a low-poly realistic feel to it.
