For the past 4 days, I’ve been slowly working on a voxel terrain. It consists of 2500+ 2-stud blocks not including trees. I’m planning on this being a little demo-map do demonstrate what the game will be like. I would like all feedback and personal opinion on it.
Thanks!
Note: I haven’t finished the back wall area or the open area with no surrounding walls yet.
I’m jealous of your ability to make 8 bit style palm trees. Also love the font. Effective overall. Very good although I’d be nervous about high part numbers if you expand into larger maps. Not all devices use instancing though most do now. Looks great. If I could improve it I’d change the grey wall around the map into something less “arena like” and more natural.
I have it set to PC/Console only at the moment until I minimize the parts. When I create the weapons and combat system I’m not sure it’ll be mobile compatible anyways.
I’m going to keep the walls there and start exanding the map behind the walls.
I am also worried about the part count and the lag so many squares would cause, if you have a large clump I’d recommend removing some and making just one big cube, doing this a lot all around the map will really help lower the part count.
I Think the game looks great as of right now. like one of the other things that were said is part count, You do have flexablility when it comes to this but I would make sure you have always as little but still have the same ammount of detail.
Like lets say in other hair styles (because I don’t see any problems with the current one made) keep up with resizing bricks to fill up spots as if they were all singular voxels so you don’t use up so many parts
Your voxel terrain looks absolutely amazing.
We normally don’t see a lot of 8bit maps, which makes yours extremely unique.
As mentioned before, the amount of parts will cause an increase amount of lag even on different types of pc’s,
and like you’ve mentioned; when you do create the weapons there is a high possibility that mobile players won’t be able to play.
Overall, your voxel terrain looms absolutely amazing and unique. I wish you the best of luck.
Thats a really well - made map! I cant say it brings back any memories because I don’t have any memories of similar kind . I kinda feel like the lack of shadows doesn’t really look nice with the Roblox aesthetic, although bringing back shadows would just ruin the whole map. What I would recommend is to check Global Shadows in the Lighting tab if you haven’t already, then select everything and uncheck Cast Shadow in the Properties tab. To make it look slightly nicer, check Cast Shadow for the grass in order to make the hills slightly more visible. If that doesn’t turn out, then ignore this entire post. Other than that, great job!
I see what you mean. I always keep my graphics on 4-5 because I don’t find shadows fit in roblox. There’s nothing I can do about that distant blur unless there is that I just don’t know about.
That blur is just how roblox graphics are on max. Which is why I keep mine down
