[FEEDBACK] Procedural Terrain Generation

Hello everyone, I’m currently working on (as you might already guess) Procedural terrain generation.

To achieve a nice looking terrain I used Perlin noise, two of them exactly. One for basic small hills and the second one for bigger mountains.
It updates as the player walks, just like in Minecraft.

To my surprise, performance is really high, even when there are 5 or so players on the server.
Does anyone have any idea how to generate: lakes, rivers, etc?
Also, how can I hide chunks that aren’t required at the moment? As you can see on some of the screenshots, chunks do not “despawn”.

Any constructive feedback or help will be very appreciated!

Wow, it’s very nice! I’ve seen part-terrain procedural generation, but this–this is out of the world!

No joke, it really is. Even my…not good/horrible computer was able to fluently handle it.

Just one thing to say though: it is very obvious and visible that the terrain discontinues:

This is also shown in the first screenshot you provided:

It looks a little awkward within the amazingness, so I would recommend using fog to hide that. Plus, it would create a nice fresh, forest-y, and natural feel.
Other than that, I am completely agape. I noted that you had some WIP UI in your game and even that you had thumbnails for your place, so are you planning to turn this into a game?

I can’t judge, but I like it it looks so realistic.

It’s very impressive visually. The ambience is quite nice as well. Hoping to see more of this as you continue to work on it!

One thing I’d recommend: Change the material of the leaves to fabric or some other matte material.

If he adds weather, this one for rainy weather so it’s reflective and looks wet, then fabric for normal.

it looks so epic but I think the place will be bigger than before…
tell me how long you made this and is it worth your time???
I think you answer this and I accept the look of your game and also the game itself
but do the best
OK :ok_hand:

Thats… incredible.

It looks really nice, and the fact that it performs well is even cooler. This is very well done, I like it. I don’t think I have much feedback to provide, at least none that others have said. Still, very cool!

Yes, I do plan to make a Survival game. Soon, you’ll be able to chop down all of those trees, craft tools and build small wooden huts!

It looks a little awkward within the amazingness, so I would recommend using fog to hide that. Plus, it would create a nice fresh, forest-y, and natural feel.

That’s why I added a Render Distance option in Settings.
I’ll increase the fog distance.
Thanks!

Thanks a lot!

Duh, I haven’t even noticed that the leaves are so reflective. Thanks for the feedback!

@MrLonely1221
I will add weather soon but, changing the material of every generated tree and bush would hit the performance hard.

This is out of this world, I absolutely LOVE it! Can’t wait to see it evolve even further. I would be willing to join an upcoming Development Team for this game as a builder / modeller. Not sure if you’re in need of any but just let me know if you are! For suggestions I’d recommend a day / night cycle, weather system and obviously adding more to it. Keep up the amazing work!

Looks really nice, i love how diverse the terrain is, that’s a huge progress since last time, and the lighting, the diverse trees and the rocks fit the entire scene really well, this seriously looks better than many of my manually done terrains, it looks really natural. It’s a great progress.
About the lighting, can you share the settings?
As for criticism, you could add some larger rock features, and try to add more slightly more rocks in the lower areas (in the valleys), as rocks tend to accumulate in valleys.
