Fill server option does not fill server

Reproduction Steps

I am a game owner; I own a small but successful game with a few hundred players typically. This game is called “Ant Life”, it is a game where players simulate an ant colony. I have a very big problem with the “fill server” option ROBLOX provides. It doesn’t work, to say the least. My game relies heavily on players and player-player interactions. I currently have one full server, one server half-full, and 6 servers with 5-10 people. This damages my game a lot because the smaller servers will provide a bad experience to my players, and they will miss out on the game by a lot, which hurts my gameplay, its success, and my revenue.

Expected Behavior

I hope that ROBLOX will hear my request, and I know that this is not nearly the first time this situation has been brought up. I hope that you will listen to your developers so that ROBLOX can be an even better platform. I hope that you make the “fill server” option actually fill up a server before it moves the players to the other servers.

iirc (though I may be mistaken / things have changed since then): The fill server option sorts players into server within a region. By the default setting, Roblox sends the player to the server that is closest to their location. The fill server option just makes it so players who are within the same region of continent end up in the same server. I’m not sure, you can check the localisation info of each player in those servers.

A temporary solution to this would be using your starter place as a hub for joining servers; allocate dedicated servers (e.g, server1, server2) and encourage your players to join the most populous server.

I would definitely like for this to do what it says it does, because I know many games that will benefit from high player servers because of the amount of player-player interactions.

Then it should just be called “Match regions” rather than “fill” if the “fill” option can’t even live up to its own name.

I wish developers could host their own dedicated server so you can technically have 1 server only game but downsides would be that not only the server costs will be on you, you have to manually update the server files yourself if a update comes out.

So, LAN servers, like in TF2 or CS:S?

As previously mentioned here, these users are likely in different regions. This is a feature Roblox applies to their servers to minimize latency. Try joining a server and see what language the chat is to prove this theory right or wrong.

I was going for only the developer of the gam…i mean “experience” would have the ability to choose if they want to host the servers themselves or let Roblox handle it, but that’s also cool idea just unsure about the implementation/execution.

This sounds like a feature request, not a bug. Huge thanks for voicing your concern. Would you mind filing a feature request for the ‘fill server’ option? Going to close out the thread.
