Find doesn't stop showing what its found when closed

Reproduction Steps

This is likely reproduceable anywhere.

  1. Go to a script that has content in it
  2. Use the Find tool to find any name
  3. Close the Find tool

Expected Behavior

I expect that when I close the Find tool the highlights of what I have found disappear.

Actual Behavior

The Find tool continues to highlight the keywords even after the tool has been closed.

Workaround

Open up the Find tool and delete the text that you just found.

Because the Find tab doesn’t completely close when you close it, it is still active. And I dont see this as some Issue and if it was, It would’ve probably been reported by now.

You can either:

  • Remove the Text so the Find Tool has nothing to look for

  • Close and Reopen the Script Tab which will reset the Tool back to normal

I do not want to remove the text every time. I want to be able to open Find and have it re-highlight the word I just searched for again. I don’t want it to persist after its closed.

Why would you expect that closing a tool would mean it should still be active? When you close an application on your desktop are they still running?

Not a very good example, apps can run in the background, so you’ll need to close them manually.

My expectation is that the person who works on this feature will make the call and determine whether it’s intended behavior. As put in the post, it’s low impact and I know there are workarounds.

You can just simply use the Find All / Replace All Tab within the view tab.

It literally works the exact same, and if you close it, it removes highlights.

No it doesn’t. The highlights stay even after the widget is closed. That’s what is being reported here.

I made sure to test before I posted, It does

and also he is talking about the Script Editor, not the Widget. (unless you are refering to the Script Editor as Widget)

I was referring to Find All, but the same thing occurs in my game with the regular find.

This is not expected nor intended behavior. This did not behave this way previously. No workaround excuses this. This is a bug, and it has been “reported by now”, see: this thread. Let’s not argue about this.

I experienced this yesterday as well.

Yeah, this has been an issue for a few weeks now, and I reported it a few days ago. Only workaround is to clear the text.

Its working just fine for me at the moment.

Thanks for the report. Is the issue still occurring on your end?

No, the issue is now resolved. Thank you.
