So I attempted to make a simple modern house as my first build and this is the result. Please leave suggestions for how I could make this better.

Looks good so far, but the door looks like it isn’t centered correctly. It’s overall pretty good for your 1st build, but I’d add things to the background as well.
- Rocks
- Flowers
- Different colors of trees/bushes

It looks pretty good for a first build. The only issue is after the door there is nothing.

It seems like you got the color and materials right, however it’s definitely. A great start for your first ever build something about the shape is pretty off and simple I would recommend expanding the house instead of two large block sized differently and placed on the side starting off I do get a few suggestions that could improve the overall look of it.
Starting off the house in my opinion is pretty simple at the moment, try adding some details such as looking at a few images to help you with getting the full design and the kind of layout you’re trying to achieve. Also the black part of the building should be turned into a balcony I would try adding a variety of shapes on the building instead of the shapes you added don’t have that modern feel. Maybe try adding brighter colors at first and then add the other shapes to it. Also try adding details on the outside such as plant pots, pools, chairs, and tables or maybe even a driveway in the front.
Usually in the real world a lot of modern houses I see or look at don’t have two large blocks and that’s all try improving your build to make it stand out. Create, to the best of your ability.

Wow! This is one of the best first builds i’ve seen. I’ve been developing since 2012, and let me tell you, my first build was absolute garbage.

Fixed some of the problems the build had.
I like this modern house, i suggest you add some texture to it.

This being your first builder ever is actually really awesome! You can add textures and decorative material to the house to make it look even more better! 
But to be honest, my first builder was very bad according to yours! Really good.
I suggest to keep the color consistency of the 
so it matches the ground and grass fix the buildings because they are too flat I would also add some decor in side of the house some furniture and rooms such as a chairs, a couch, tables, eletronics, beds, and kitchens, bedrooms, a livingroom, and a basement the possibilities are endless! 
Change up the Skybox 
so it’s not so plain and bland some change of Material would look nice! Experiment with lighting to make your build more appealing. These ideas should really improve your build good luck and have a great day! 
The only changes I see is you placed a balcony to the building definitely keep on improving.
I feel like if you want to actually make it look more improved, add proper windows, make outlines to each wall, roof, door or window, add the lights to the top of the ceiling and around the house itself and then you could, add the land features like the different plants, bushes, trees, gardens, pool and the stairs, pathway, and rails to the building.
I would try spacing the building more by creating different shapes as I said above little details on the building would improve it more as it looks rather simple and not enough details on it, I’ll connect a link below to help you out you could use this as a little guide.
