First Model Made In Blender (Scifi Ship)

Hi, guys!

After watching BlenderGuru’s series about modeling an Anvil, I decided to try and create my own model. This originally began as a scifi weapon, however, I messed up with the scaling on the “Wings” and it ended up looking more like a scifi ship to me, so I continued modeling it as such.

I’d love to get feedback on this, and I’ll be sure to post updates once more detail and such is added. After the modeling is finished, I have to take the daunting task of texturing. Oh boy.

Looks really good to start! I won’t comment on the model, but I will point out a few Best PracticesTM that might help you down the road. I’m not the best at Blender but I’ve been using it for years now and have found some methods that help me. (Other more experienced Blender-ers please correct me at any point, I’m learning too :stuck_out_tongue: )

I wanted to point out this section to mention redundant faces. I’m imaging you used a Loop Cut (Ctrl + R) to get some extra angles along that section of the object, which is useful except it makes a lot of redundant faces that can become annoying to navigate later on.

To remove these sections, you can select the Vertexes or Edges and press X, the select “Dissolve Edges”

This removes redundant faces and generally just cleans up the model.

You’re off to a great start though, and don’t be afraid to play around with the buttons and modifiers (obviously saving your model to another file first!!!) because some of them really make workloads easier.

And if you need more tips, tricks, or help, there’s always the 3D Modelling for Roblox Purposes Discord ( Discord ) where there are 3D artists way better than me that are eager to help new Blender users learn the ropes. We all know Blender isn’t the most user friendly software, so we help each other out when we can.

Keep it up!

Nope you described most of what was wrong with the model currently pretty well, I feel like he could of done a bit better on these segments as well as your previously mentioned critiques

you can fix most of this by not using ctrl R so much, using k (knife tool, k + z to use without collisions blocking)

and by just looking throughout the model, checking everything, looking for quads and tris that could optimize / fix areas of interest that would look poor otherwise
