First thing made in blender

Owned blender for like 18 hours now because i wanna actually make my own gun models instead of just using free ones, as the free ones dont have nearly everything im looking for

didnt really know too much so i spent 6 hours tracing a image of a ak (time well spent)

Mainly looking for stuff i could improve on / some more knowledge i could get before i make another gun

Blender

Studio

Didnt really know how to show it off, so just spun around it  :+1:

Pretty impressive for your first model made in blender, I’ve tried doing guns before and it’s very difficult. Can’t wait to see your skills improve even more along the way. Good-luck!

Fantastic! My first model in a blender was an ordinary tree, and then I didn’t go into a blender for 5 months.Good work! :+1:

For surfaces you want round like the barrel you should select them, go to the Faces tab, and choose Smooth faces. This will soften the hard edges.

If you want certain edges sharp then select those edge(s), go to the Edges tab and choose Mark sharp.

Sometimes you’ll get some strange shadows so select all faces (or edges, or vertices) and go to the Mesh tab, select Normals, and select Reset normals. This basically makes all the faces render directly outward from the surface because moving Vertices, Edges, or Faces around can ‘twist’ the normals.

I’m not in Blender right now (and I’m not a pro at it anyway) so I can’t give the shortcuts and I may have misnamed some tools.

Couldn’t you just use auto-smooth instead of mark sharp? I know it doesn’t give as much control but most of the time auto-smooth works just fine for most things. Correct me if im wrong since im no blender pro

There is a small gap and I am not sure if it is intended or not.

In the wood? I think that’s the slide for cocking the rifle.
@Corrupt_Champion I haven’t even tried Auto Smooth. I probably will next time. Like I said, definitely not a pro in Blender.

All it does is simply smooth surfaces that are less than a certain angle (and you can change the angle btw). Its really helpful if you don’t want to mark each specific surface that you want to smooth

Wow. I can’t believe your first model is so amazing

If its about the gap in the wood, the image i used had a gap there and many other images did aswell

The Image In Question

Any other thing that has gaps is probably something i missed
