Hey forum. My game is out for first tests for the masses and it’s receiving an unkindly 60% rating. Now, for those who haven’t released games often, this is usually because of massive game breaking bugs / new player problems. I, for one, have not found any game breaking bugs and the game is relatively stable as far as I can tell. The players seem to enjoy the game.
If anyone can give me insights into what might be causing this unfavorable rating, please let me know!
Played it for a good 10 minutes, to be honest there really isn’t much to do. All I’ve gathered is: You can make a family, decorate your house, and that’s kind of it. The last minutes was just me ramming my car into someones house and then I got flung out of the map.
Also the game lacks music, and the UI is really oversized and sometimes overlays one another.
People dislikes my game as well, currently is at 71%. I just noticed that your game is getting a lot of dislikes for no reason (is actually well scripted) when rating a game I focus on how hard they work on it not on how fun it is. Roblox should really add a feature, so when they like or dislike they give us a feedback. A thumbs down doesn’t help the developer at all, it just gets them mad.
First thing I noticed was the poor UI experience. It honestly seems quite cluttered and a mess to navigate. Perhaps that somewhat contributes to the poor rating?
Just making sure, you know that your data store doesn’t fail and anything like that right? People hates to lose data. Secondly, idk if you have done this but you can check if the game crashes on some devices in the Developer Stats of the game, maybe see if there is anything below “Filtered Devices”, if there is nothing then idk. You can also try your game in different apps. Download the one from Microsoft Store, that app drives me crazy cuz is heavily unoptimized, some people weren’t able to move in my game if they were using that Roblox App to play. Try it out and maybe something weird might happen. Idk.
Having bad ratings is actually pretty common for the genre. Because it’s marketed and presented as a “Family” game, people may be joining for the sole purpose of leaving dislikes. That’s my best guess.
Another possibility is that people were expecting your game to be exactly like Bloxburg, but then it clearly wasn’t, and they felt they were tricked into joining.
Third guess: It could be broken for a lot of people. Haven’t seen any evidence of it, but it’s possible. For instance, Mac users will sometimes (in general) run into issues that don’t appear for anyone else.
The reason your game is receiving a bad reputation is the following:
Why should I care?
Why should I go play this instead of Adopt Me? Adopt Me has more players, more things to do, and more gameplay in general.
I’m being mean here to show you what some kid would think upon joining your game. Why should I play this? You need to make this more than just a role play game, because that simply will not attract players as the competition already offers this experience. You need something that the competition doesn’t offer, something new to make people think: “Hey, maybe I’ll come back here sometime.”
Having your game locked to only group members may be extremely boring to some people especially if you only have a small quantity of active players in said group. The entire UX is also pretty distasteful: a lot of GUI’s pop up when you first play and all have to be manually dismissed.
The UI itself isn’t that bad but could certainly be improved – there’s a lot of excessively oversized elements. The game itself looks really similar to Adopt Me (concerningly similar), this was most likely intentional by design to attract more players and lead in dislikes after people realizing it wasn’t as fun.
